Forums - Microsoft - Minecraft overtakes Black Ops on XBL activity chart

Eurogamer

Minecraft has overtaken Call of Duty: Black Ops on the weekly Xbox Live activity chart.

It's currently the second most played game on the service, up from third last week, with only Modern Warfare 3 attracting more global unique users.

Mojang's world-building sensation is the first game to overtake Black Ops since it launched last November, aside from Modern Warfare 3.

Not only that, but a Tweet from Microsoft community man Major Nelson earlier today read "Pretty sure this is the first time an XBLA title has hit #2."

Here's the full top 20, as seen on Nelson's blog:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition

Call of Duty: Black Ops

FIFA 12

Battlefield 3

Halo: Reach

Modern Warfare 2

Gears of War 3

GTA IV

Forza Motorsport 4

Max Payne 3

Trials Evolution

Mass Effect 3

NHL12

Madden NFL 12

Halo 3

Saints Row: The Third

There was no change at the top of the Xbox Live Arcade sales chart, with Minecraft unsurprisingly holding on to first place. The highest new entry was Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 in fourth place.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition

Trials Evolution

The Walking Dead

Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2

Castle Crashers

Seeing Halo: Reach at #6 makes me happy

Not bad Mr. Mine.

Was a bit suprised that Halo 3 was in the chart again (still), sweet!

And I thought it jumped to top spot.

No surprise.

It shows 360 is getting more taste and variety when Halo Reach is #6 and Minecraft is #2

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Excellent news. Hopefully this teaches devs that they don't have to be uber casual for success. (even though Minecraft is way past 'just' success)

I got my son Minecraft and watched him play it for 10-15 minutes.

Can someone please explain to me the point of the game? It seems like you just run around, chop things down, and maybe build stuff in an NES world.

You use your fantasy in an world to have fun :).  I basically started with creating a stairway to heaven (and seeing how high it will goes)  then I made in the sky an swimming pool...Then I replaced the wood in the swimming pool with glass so I could swim and see all the enemies on the ground, then I made a castle;..Then I thought it would be amazing if I don't have to take the stairway to go down but use an minecart to do it, then I created an awesome cave where all the walls are replaced with glass while their is lave behind it...

And before I knew I probably spend + 50 hours.

Did you ever have a big box of legos as a child, rummage through them, build random stuff, and create stories/actions with them?

That's pretty much how this is - with the inclusion of a day/night system that involves fortifying and warding off the attack of little creatures at night.

Of course. I plan on giving it a try. For the game to sell 2 million copies and counting, there must be something about it. I'll give it a shot this weekend.
