I'd say you should do two things.

1) Look at the library of Wii games. There are a lot of great ones, especially if you like platformers (Galaxy 1/2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby Epic Yarn, NSMB Wii), Nintendo's first party games in general, or you're looking for a good family experience. You can also get a lot of great Wii games on the cheap. Muramasa is 10 bucks on Amazon, Red Steel 2 and No More Heroes are 15.

2) Watch Nintendo's E3s press conference.

If you can find between 5 and 10 Wii games you'd really like to try, I'd say the Wii will be worth it. If you find 5-10 games you'd really like to try AND you're impressed by what Nintendo shows at E3, wait. If you don't find 5-10 games you like, then I'd forget about the Wii altogether, unless you'd like to pay about 200 dollars to try Xenoblade.

Buy a wii right now, used is like 80$, buy also ArcRise Fantasia, Muramasa, FFCC: Crystal bearers, Tales of..., Madworld, Red steel 2 and Metroid prime trilogy. Good games that are cheap.

go on mate splash out, Wii is so cheap these days, and there is also a whole bunch of decent Wii games that are cheap. Xenoblade alone is worth owning a Wii for in my opinion, also check out goldeneye, red steel 2 and Epic mickey. The latter you should be able to pick up cheap now the 2nd game is due for release.

this. Also, are you majorly an RPG guy? Becasue if not, you might want to give games like Smash Bros, Metroid Prime Trilogy and the Mario Galaxy games a shot. In each of those games, unless they are directly against your taste, over and over again, you will be surprised at how good the game is and how you're being entertained in ways you never even imagined before. Seriously. If you just can't stand ridiculously colorful environments/cartoony atmosphere though, you may be too turned of by the visuals of Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros to enjoy the awesome, unique gameplay.

If you were getting a Wii U anyways, that's even better because I believe the Wii U has backwards compatability but not with GameCube though...

Edit: whoops, read your b/c as "because"

It would be wise to wait, and better to learn more of Wii U before you make drastic decision so late in the generation. However, I must admit, Xenoblade Chronicles is a fine game.

if you're planning on buying a wii-u anyway this is a no brainer. If you're not sure yet then you do not have the sufficient data to make an informed choice. However, in this day and age, where worth while games are a dime a dozen, i cannot in good conscience reccommend a system purchase for 2 games under any circumstance. I can however (as can alot of us) recommend (sp?) 10-20 games on the wii worth the purchase either because A:they're excellent games, or B: motion controls actually make it a unique title exclusive to the wii. last story and xenoblade being 2 of the former.
