Old news. I've been making fun of this for a few months.

Sorry if I missed the post on here.  Figured that, with the movie out, it would be worth a post about the game.

My intention wasn't to make it seem like I was pointing out that it's been posted already. My intention was to laugh at the fact they turned a "strategy board game" into a "first person shooter video game" . :P

And it's probably still better than the movie. :D

If Battleship were actually a strategy board game, it might remotely fit.  But Battleship the boardgame is actually a game of deduction with a naval theme.  Besides the theme not being a fit for a land-based FPS mode, what it is, isn't either.  Think of this: They do a movie based on Mastermind, and then do a FPS based on the movie.  That is akin to what you have with Battleship.

Anyhow, I am not opposed to branching out, if done right.  Like Battleship Galaxies is a space combat game, that is done well, by Hasbro:

Now maybe if they did a movie based on this, it might be interesting.

Yeah. Strategy was a bad term. lol

No sweat.  I have seen people end up putting deductive reasoning under "strategy" and then argue that deductive reasoning was strategy of some sort, because you employ a strategy to figure things out.  Thing, in regards to strategy, is that it is an interactive process, for the most part, where you try to end up interacting with the play environment to defeat one's opponent.  Strategy can use deductive reasoning in it, but something based on deductive reasoning usually is more static, and akin to figuring out a puzzle, as opposed to generating the puzzle on the fly to muck up one's opponent.

Coming Fall 2012: Monopoly: The Video Game

Drive your car around the monopoly board and try to beat the other racers! Scenery based on the original Monopoly board game! (to be honest, even that would be more similar to the original than Battleship is).

If driving games were more popular, they would.  Heck, Simcity got turned into a racing game via Streets of Simcity.  As of now, look for it to become an FPS, because the men in suits who also buy dolls, have seen the numbers, and feel that Call of Duty's numbers are reflective of what any FPS can do.  Yes, EVERY SINGLE GAME by Hasbro (under their Milton Bradley and Parker Bros. line) will be turned into an FPS.

* Operation: Shoot up players, and then remove bits from the players you shot.

* Clue: Try to shoot a player with one of a number of weapons when others aren't looking an hide the body in a room.  Players then try to figure out who shot one of the player, and with what weapon, and in what room.

* Scrabble: Shoot players with letters.

* Boggle: Shoot players with with cubes that have letters on them.

* Axis and Allies: Hasbro enters the frey and decides to take on Activision and steal their title back.

* Risk: Like Axies and Allies, just with pre-20th century weapons.  Said to have an excellent single player campaign.

* Magic: The Gathering.  Hasbro releases a Magic based FPS along the lines of Shadowrun on the XBox 360.

* Twister: Spin the spinner to target what part of the body of an opponent to shoot.

* Game of Life: Get married, raise a family, engage in a fragfest in this GTA reinterpretation of the boardgame, complete with online multiplayer death match.  Learn what life is like in a crime-ridden inner city.

* Connect Four: Can win the game if you are the first person to kill four players in a row.

* Guess Who: Find out who your target is and shoot them.  Need to use deduction to figure out their attributes.  Do not frag the wrong player.

And it goes on and on and on...

Is it wrong that I'm actually interested in this? It kinda looks interesting.

You know what, as much as I mock it, because it shows how bankrupt the videogame industry is for ideas, I do also find it interesting.  I am just so annoyed they go this way, it is hard for me to end up getting on it.  It probably is something I will look into when it gets under $20 in the bargain bin, after it flopped.

$20? That's way too much

UNDER $20.  I was undecided how much under I find acceptable.

I am shocked that this has happened and that there still isn't a Rambo FPS.

That is definitely worth pondering.  Rambo isn't a new movie release though.  They also haven't done a Ocean's FPS, as far as I can tell.

The game seems pretty cool, the review makes it sound like a solid all around experience. I love the idea that you gotta showcase skill and speed in combat fights. Sounds like it would make for some real challenging gameplay on hard mode. I was hoping that they'd include a traditional mode though, for fans of the board game, maybe with online PvP multiplayer.

Well, that is Mark.  Mark generally will like questionable stuff.  He likes about everything.  If you see him not liking something, that is a good sign to avoid it.  But the, take a look at Angry Joe:

Talking abomination level here.  The game has no multiplayer, and clocks in at $60 new.

Here is Metacritic on it (41 rating for XBox 360, less than 2 by users, with PS3 version being at 44 now):

People can go and hunt down other ratings also.  It does look like an avoid now, even in a bargain bin.  It is by Activision also?  Seriously?

I was hoping it would be more like GTA. :/

My take on it is.  And the multiplayer does come with and FPS deathmatch mode..
