I just dont see the worth in the company or how they will make/maintain a profit in the coming years. Its a great social hub, but i dont see the value in them as a company.

Say what! That's crazy!
FB is going to take over the world. Anytime soon we will all just live in cells, socialise and make "friends" on FB and have little slots on our cells so pizza's can be slotted through we just ordered on a FB app. Ahhhh! heaven!

They went public, which usually means the kiss of death. lol
I greatly prefer Google+. I wish there was an easy way to get everyone to move over.
It allows you to manage your social life FAR better than FB and if you have an Android phone, you can make its content sooo much more seamless. Additionally, the default privacy is far better and much easier to setup/understand.
However, I can definitely see why FB is valued as it is and it will take a lot for anything else to really replace it.

Why wouldn't their ad streams continue to work? Facebook has more access to your private life than any other ad stream out there. The way they can data mine your interests and tailor advertising to suit is unmatched and Internet advertising itself would have to fail for Facebook to fail. There's no company better positioned for direct customer advertising than Facebook. Not even Google is as well-positioned for advertising and they know it. That's why they created G+ in the first place.

The greatest bubble of all time. There's a study (can't find a link) that says that only 2 percent of facebook users click on ads, as opposed to the bare minimum 4 percent needed for a healthy ad economy.
Time for hype

The big challenge for facebook is the lack of advertising on the mobile access... more ane more people will only access FB via mobile so they need to find a way to advertise on the mobile site otherwsie other advertisers will lose faith. Now they are a listed company everything will be much more transparent so we shall see. |
I've advertised on Facebook. It's anything but a waste of money. Like everything else, it's all about targeting. GM could have been doing any number of things wrong to cause a lack of return on the investment.
Mobile advertising is going to be a challenge, though. It will be interesting (and probably invasive) to see how social networks compensate. It's not hard to imagine a near-future when they start using peoples' actual updates to push relevant products.

Well it seems the stock market think that advertising streams do work and will continue to work where Facebook is concerned. Why else would they put that value on it?
Then again no one is perfect so you may well have a point. I am no expert but listening to the "expert" views on the radio and TV they are just about as divided about it eventually proving to be a flop or a success as anyone else.
Ultimately time will tell one way or the other, so I'll let that be the judge of it. Unfortunately I have no shares in it so it doesn't matter.
