It allows you to manage your social life FAR better than FB and if you have an Android phone, you can make its content sooo much more seamless. Additionally, the default privacy is far better and much easier to setup/understand.

However, I can definitely see why FB is valued as it is and it will take a lot for anything else to really replace it.

these sites ONLY have value due to their advertising capability.  Without advertising they are worthless.  FB has a challenge to prove the advertising streams can work and continue to work.

They have value in selling personal info to companies/governments but not 105 billion worth of value
