Forums - Gaming - Unreal Engine 4 Will Make Next Generations Games Look Utterly Mindblowing *First Screenshots*

Oh God that looks incredible. I can't wait for next gen and its CGI-like graphics! I've been wanting this ever since I first played a videogame.

Console prices will be kept affordable for lower-income people due to the subsidizing of consoles that Microsoft and Sony are sure to do through their online plans. Microsoft is testing it on the 360 and I guarantee you it'll be a main focus of their strategy for the Xbox Durango. Sony would be silly to not follow suit.

it all depends on where nintendo wants to put their money.  the tablet is going to be more expensive than a standard controller.  not sure how much but lets just say $20-30 bucks more.  MSony is very likey, imo, to lauch at $400 dollar or more.  if nintendo targets $300 or $350 then that is another $50 to $100 dollars more that isn't going to hardware specs.  $70 to $130 dollars more is quite a big jump in hardware specs MSony is likey to have, imo.

...and that's not accounting for the likey case that MSony will probably be selling at a loss at launch, something nintendo is not likely to do.

While I agree with most of your post, specially the fact that MS and probably Sony will launch their consoles at a loss, there are ways for Nintendo to overcome some of those 70-130€ in hardware.

For instance they are going with propietary discs and it's easy to assume that the WiiU won't be able to play DVDs/BDs so they won't have to pay royalties for that. Also, it's rumored (because that's the only thing we know, rumors) that the console won't have an HDD, again something that Sony and Microsoft will probably include.

And then there's another thing to consider: resolution. That pics at 5029x2827 looks amazing, there is no denying, but our TVs are only 1920x1080. So yes, maybe the nextbox and PS4 will be able to run the UE4 at 1080 thanks to those +100 $/€ in hardware, but this gen has shown us that games running at 720 can look great, and if WiiU is able to run the UE4 at 720p, most people will find it good enough.

And let's not forget that, again according to rumors, Microsoft will bundle Kinect with the new console, and that will cost more than WiiU's controller.

Mind you, I'm 100% positive that Nintendo's console will be the weakest of all three, but I'm not so sure about it not being able to run this engine.

perhaps.  we'll find out soon enough.  right now all we have is rumor and specualtion to go on.  E3 should at least clarify how high speced the wii U is.  we'll probably have to wait quite a while to get anything definate on the next MSony hardware.

E3 will have so much information I am scared I will suffer from rampancy o_o!

I shudder to think of next-gen development cycles and costs... (-.-')

Making a powerful console doesn't really mean instant big losses. Also, if the developer is too silly and thinks that they HAVE TO use all the power available to them and spend big, then they're idiots.

Generally 3rd parties seem to have 2 modes of thinking: full-scale budget title (read: Shovelware) or balls-to-the-wall resource hog. There seems to be very little middle ground, and no sense that a title made for less can also be a big seller (having quickly forgotten the Wii epoch by and large)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yea. A lot of 3rd parties this gen make me facepalm when I think about their performance.

Hi-res screens

people who aren't impressed have to see it in action. samaritan video was awesome and much more impressive as the pics were in my opinion. as better the graphics get as more important it is to see it in action to see all those particles and so on flying over the screen
