Forums - General Discussion - Your first experience on the internet

It was probably around 1995 I was in school and we used the computers a lot but never for internet browsing. So one day we were allowed to browse the interenet and I had no idea what was going on. I asked the smart girl next to what the hell am I suppose to do, and she said just type www. and then type anything you wanna see or interested in then type .com. So for some reason I went to www.tattoo.com which took me to some weird site at the time.

I also remember a couple years later searching up pokemon and I ended running across a picture of pikachu dressed up as a priest killing a naked misty....my first glimpse of the fucked up internet, I quickly closed the page and ran to the corner and rocked myself back to sanity, let the desensitizing begin!

Shortly after that my dad won this shitty computer in a poker game and that became our first computer :)

Around the Network

I don't really know when I realized I was on the internet. It was a gradual progression from BBS use at home, telnet, usenet, etc to using the client/server system at uni with access to outside newsgroups, alt binaries, chat rooms etc to slowly be overtaken by search engines like AltaVista and the rise of www addresses.

My first experiences with the internet at uni was mostly text only access with work arounds to download files and copy them onto floppy disks (was discouraged at uni) to be used on a pc. That was in '92.

Mid-90's... buddy got first computer and we spent a couple hours looking for porn.

Porn. Mid 90's.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Star wars fan site, took about a half hour to load, mid nineties

Around the Network

Back in 2004 or so, I was taught how the internet worked in a tech class at school.

In contrast, my parents were natives my 1999.

Love and tolerate.

back in junior high 1998.. I typed in ff5.com because I wanted to check out final fantasy V.. boy was I surprised. The teacher was walking around and I was panicking and my friend couldn't stop laughing... good times..

When I was able to read I was on the internet... sooo... I can't really remember.

I don't remember the very first time I was on the internet, but I'd imagine it was at a friend's house watching him talk to people on his AOL chat list.

I hated computers until I was around 15 years old (I played outdoor sports my entire life before then) and had my first computer class. Then I found the Legend of Zelda board on IGN and... well... life completely changed. :P

I truly have no idea. I was pretty young at the time we got our first computer, so I don't remember it too well. I have fond memories of waiting forever to load anything and everyone always getting angry about not being able to use the phone though...
