ALL NUMBERS ARE VGCHARTZ NUMBERS AND ARE PROBABLY INACURATE GIVE OR TAKE 0.1M UNITS, I'M GUESS THAT HALO 3 IS FURTHER INACURATE BUT I'VE TRIED TO ACCOMDATE FOR THAT BY 2X'ING MY ESTIMATE. IT'S JUST A SALES ESTIMATE USING PURE THEORY SO ALL YOU HALO/360 FANBOYS PLEASE DON'T CRY. I'VE USED SO MUCH THEORY IN THIS THAT IT'S CREDIBILITY IS ARROUND 30%-45% , SO YES IT'S NOT REALLY CREDIBLE BUT IT'S AN INDICATION.
I thought it would be interesting to predict the sales Halo Wars will achieve in '08 for a number of reasons.
- The potential success of Halo Wars is unclear
- Halo Wars is a significant factor in XBOX 360's '08 performance.
Halo 3 Microsoft 6.51m
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Activision 3.13m
Quake 4 Activision 0.27m
Soldier of Fortune: Payback Activision 0.07m
Blacksite: Area 51 Midway 0.16m
F.E.A.R. Files Sierra 0.04m
Timeshift Sierra 938 7.18 0.21m
Clive Barkers Jericho Codemasters 1,001 7.00 0.18m
Half-Life 2: The Orange Box EA 0.62m
Medal of Honor: Airborne Electronic Arts 0.24m
Bioshock 2K Games 1.50m
Gears Of War Microsoft 4.86m
Adding the total sales of all the XBOX 360 FPS games and working out the average sold for XBOX 360 FPS's we get a 1.03 M.
Assuming that All FPS games are identical (which obviously they are not) The Halo name ( the halo name meaning MS's branding , advertising , promotion and the reputation Halo has for being a succesfull FPS) gave the title an arounf 632% increase of sales simply because of the Halo Name.
If we use this same logic to workout the effect the Halo Name will have on an RTS game
Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars 3 | EA | 1,380 | 6.53 | 0.48 |
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth | EA | 409 | 5.22 | 0.29m |
All the RTS's on the 360 ( total of 2 ) have sold on average 385,000 copies (pretty impressive for a genre that is considered to be for PC) . If we put the Halo name into the equation we get (632% increase of 385,000) =2005850
Doubling the figure to accomodate a range of possibilities I predict Halo wars will sell between.
