For me, as far visual improvements go, I would have liked to see whatever resources went into the 3D implementation reallocated to a stronger system spec-wise instead (as in, without stereoscopic 3D). The ability to create more expansive worlds/more appealing polygonal graphics/better OS level features would appeal to me far more than the stereoscopic effect.

Right now I see it as a system with fewer options and more washed out colours when it comes to 2D games than its rivals (not just PSV, smartphones also) and much weaker polygonal capabilities than its gaming rival (PSV) and very soon most smartphones as well.

Hmm, interesting point. Do you have any numbers on polygon-throughput on the handheld-consoles?

On the topic of 3D videos, who feels like that Green Lantern trailer was just a big tease by Nintendo?

Who honestly thinks 3D feature films would not be a marketable USP for the 3DS, honestly.

mmm... not really, 3D without glasses it is innovative, imho the real challenge is to get a real advantage of the material you have available

Mnementh, you guys don't have Netflix in Germany? Streaming 3D video is already a feature on the 3DS, with the Nintendo Show 3D. You use it regularly (if you watch the show), so a media-less 3D film feature would be not only a no-brainer, but a joke to make for the 3DS. Mind you, there are likely business constraints as to why this isn't happening (big studios not wanting to make their 3D content available at a cheap price (due to cost of production and equipment? idk).

I don't know if we have Netflix. If we have it is very badly advertised. But I believe we don't have it.

I don't know the Show 3D. Is it an app? Don't have it in the eShop here in Germany. We have Nintendo-Video, it offers 4 videos to watch and replaces them regularly. But they aren't streamed, they are played from the SD-card.

Internet-based streaming might be a solution for long 3D-movies. Don't know how well it will work, but data-rate might be high enough. If there is enough RAM to buffer for short connection-problems is one question. PCs use to have much more RAM.

Yeah, Nintendo show 3D is available in Canada from the e-shop. Well, you have Nintendo Video, it works off the same concept. Be it a 4 minute video or a full feature, Netflix only buffers a certain amount of video to watch, not the whole movie. You can watch a whole movie on the 3DS on Netflix (I already have), so this is a confirmed non-issue.

Streaming 3D on the 3DS is proven to work. Nintendo Video is streamed in the US and not downloaded to SD card.

Are you sure it is streamed and not put on the SD-card in the US? Can you watch it with disabled Wifi?

I never could, no. It had to be watched while online.

Interesting. Why no streaming here in europe? I don't know.

Long movies would involve big and expensive servers, but watching a long movie could involve some payment.

I keep the 3D on all the time, i love it. I dont know why people think it is an issue still, as clever old Nintendo give you the option to disable it. I think it would be more of a problem if Nintendo didnt give you this option as opinion would really be split then. I suppose its like when you go to the movies, some films you just wouldnt bother watching in 3D, but then CGI blockbusters just benifit greatly from it and enhances your experience.

No.

The price, no 1st party games at launch, lack of dual analog setup, small battery.... those were the bad decisions.

Small battery... 3DS: 1300 mAh; DS: 850 mAh; DS Lite: 1000 mAh; DSi: 840 mAh. The 3DS has a bigger battery, than it's predecessors. But the brighter backlight to support two images for stereoscopic 3D suck it away faster.

Nearly every smartphone created has a battery that is larger than the 3DS battery. These smartphones while only having one screen, those screens use more power due to being denser and higher end technologies. These smartphones in nearly all cases over the last year at least have higher end hardware as well... more cpus, tons of radios, and many other features not found in the 3DS.

3DS battery life is what 3 to 5hrs max? My phone with a ~1800mAh battery, playing music in the background, many other services running such as all those radios and any app I've used recently (Android has real multitasking), and playing Angry Birds... will easily last up to 8hrs.

Considering that these large batteries are put into millions upon millions of smartphones every day, I'm betting the cost to go from the 1300 to around 1800 or even 2000 would have been a very small difference, yet provided a significant increase in playtime.

My point wasn't thats its battery was smaller than its predecessors... no fucking shit its larger than theirs. My point is that in a time when these batteries are being used by so many devices, it makes far more sense to increase its size and allow a game console longer life than only a few hours of active play time.

While some people don't care or even see the 3D effect, it can be turned off very easily while not affecting anything else. However, having the machine not last more than a few hours really fucks shit up.

"ok dad, we're barely on the 3rd hour of our 14hr road trip but I have nothing to do now... I'm bored... Are we there yet.." and so on. Thanks Mr small battery.
