How come both Vita and 3DS is struggling in the west? 3DS is doing fairly well I guess, but it really should be doing a whole lot better... Is it that missing 2nd analog circle/stick? ;P

Cheap Smartphone games should be the main reason. It wasn't nearly as widespread during the DS/PSP generation as it is now.

But isn't smartphones wide spread in Japan as well?

Not sure, but they are well known for loving their portables. For instance, Super Mario 3D Land has already outsold Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 in Japan.

Also a very high percentage a Japanese spend a lot of time on the train. The average office worker in Tokyo spends two hours commuting to work, round trip. This gives them more time to play longer games and opens the doors up for more portable playtime.

sounds reasonable... I know I'd be gaming the whole way to work (which is like 15-20 min) if I had a 3DS!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Yeah, but why doesn't it appeal to the western market?? except that there's no games out yet (except, like, 4 AWSEOME games)?

Because 4 awesome games is not enough. No where near.

Naaw I know - plus me personally, I'm waiting for the redesign!!

That isn't the whole reason. 3DS and Vita just don't seem to have much appeal in the West. Other than the Mario Games. Japan has many more games than the West does so it is doing better over there. USA isn't bad but Europe is horrible. (Despite it being near US's sales.) It should pick up this Holiday, a lot, though.

I think this should sum it up:

- Overpriced hardware <--- Rectified

- Lack of high quality games

- 3D is not as popular as they thought it would be by now. Perhaps even less popular than it was back then

- Expensive software, unlike smartphones (and homeconsoles where the price is actually justifiable). This goes for the "cheap" downloads and Virtual Console as well

- Bad reputation (screen scratching, get sick by watching 3D images, lack of second circle pad, near-useless web-browser)

More or less.

If they fix all of the above issues I'd sooo get one! well, the SW costs I can live with - but they should really offer something like Appstore or Android market where you can download small, useless games...

That is what should have been there.

1. Expensive SW should go for all consoles not just the 3DS.

2. To each his own.

1. Then why did you cross over smartphones? And given how big games are nowadays, I'm glad they usually manage to stay below $60. (For my own sake. A new game costs $89 where I live).

2. Wut? That's the widespread perception from non-Ninty fans.

What?

I view it perfectly fine. Many people do.

1. Think of it this way: If a game costs $60 in the US, and they translate it to $89 in Sweden (yup, our prices are pretty fucking high over here), then if they'd raise the price to $70-$80 in the US, my wallet would be very sad.

2. You are a Ninty-fan, your opinion is invalid.

1. 3DS Games do not cost that much.

2. It doesn't matter if I'm a Ninty Fan or not. Heck! My Grandma can see it perfectly fine!

1. New 3DS games cost $67 over here.

2. See what? The scratches? The horrible web-browser? The lack of a second circle pad?   (<--- That's a rethorical question by the way)
