Forums - Gaming - Notch: EA methodically destroying gaming

indie devs need to stop making knockoffs of 8-bit and flash games before they assume the role of absolute moral authority of the videogame industry.

And I suppose that forum posters should also have to make something other than 8-bit/flash games before they voice their oppinions on the internet as well? Or is it if you are an indie dev you somehow have less rights to voice your oppinions...

Never mind the fact that Minecraft and his new game are not 8-bit or flash bassed...

lol, I get it

If we hold you to your own standards we would have to not listen to you, very cleaver.

Yes, it was very cleaver wasn't it?

Well Minecraft does look exactly like an 8-bit game would in 3D, but that's not the point I was making.  You have developers like Notch here and the guy who did Angry Birds for example with one hit game each under their belt who now think they now have the pulse of the entire gaming industry and know exactly how it should be run and what gamers want.

Of course they're entitled to their own opinions.  But just because they had a hit game, that doesn't necessarly make them leaders of the industry all of a sudden.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

You see that is what I don't understand, Notch voiced his own opinion on his personal twitter about a topic. He is not trying to be some arbiter of the video game industry, and if you had payed any attention to any of his interviews you would know he is the last person who would ever want to do that. It's other people that are treating his comments like some demand.

Stop thinking about Notch's comments as if he is something he is not. He is a cool guy, that is extreamly genorous, humble and happens to have made a really popular game. His oppinions are just that, everyone is free to dissagree or agree with them. He is not trying to be any leader in the industry, it's other people that are treating him like he is one.

Indie games are generally bad, and Minecraft is no exception.

I'll take commercial sludge over the latest pretentious wank from some talentless nobody any day.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you just missed the point of my analogy. The distinction is pointless. They make games to sell for profit.

Think of it this way indie is the equivelent to "made in *your country here*" vs "made in china" yes both items are made in much the same way yes they are both made to be sold in your country etc. Is that distinction pointless?

Seeing as how I'm from the U.S., the distinction is extremely pointless since both products would be unreliable and potentially dangerous.

Indie Devs
....................
Take Old Ideas.
Add new spin to it
Make it a platformer.
Tada~

Whether they make good, popular or 8-bit/flash games or not, the indie scene is for people like notch, their own personal sandbox. For EA to come in and play is borderline acceptable, but for them to start playing commercial giant with bundles and stuff, it smells sleezy as can be.
