Welcome to 2002, Nintendo. Glad you could make it!

Sony and Microsoft aren't even offering full digital distribution on their home consoles now, much less 10 years ago. Nintendo is ahead of the game for once. When PS4 and 720 come out, we'll be welcoming Sony and Microsoft to 2012.

Sony already does this on Vita and its been on PC for a very long time.

Yeah, somebody already pointed that out.  The key words are "Home consoles".  The thing is, there's probably hundreds of retail games on the 360 ready for download right now and quite a few PS3 retail games that are available for download, too.  The 360 has more retail titles but the PS3 has actually had titles ready for download the same day they hit retail.  With the 360, the downloadable titles are available maybe six months later.  And, like you said, the Vita and PC already had this feature.  Not sure what the_dengle is going with, here.

Of course, I personally would only download titles for a portable system so I wouldn't have to lug them around with me.  That's why I have so many titles saved to my Vita, PSP, and 3DS.  I'd never use this feature on a home console unless the were PSN/SEN, XBLA, or VC/WW bite sized titles of 2GB or less.

I don't read threads past the first few posts

As you wish. Go around calling an educated guess "confirmed" if you like, I don't really care. Just make sure to bookmark the posts you've made so far, because I suspect you'll be copy-pasting them a lot until it's actually confirmed/not.

QFT, he copy-pasted it from his argument with me on the other thread.

We came to the exact same conclusion: that it wasn't confirmed yet, but likely.

am i the only one who worries about having my hard drive getting too small, when i hear about digital downloads?

anyway, i wonder what kind of hard drive the Wii-U will have, and if Nintendo already has some kind of size restriction for the games in place.

Can't really have much of a size restriction if full retail games are going to be downloadable.

that's the thing, if they are saying they will have their first party games for download day one, i kinda doubt that they will have any 25 GB titles or even larger in mind. more like 10 GB and less.

Perhaps I should note that download size is always smaller than the HDD size because the game can be compressed for digital delivery.  So a 10 GB game on the disc won't be a 10 GB download.   But even if that comes out to be just a 5 GB download (figure just for debate purposes) you can't lock downloads to 5 GB because the games will get bigger.  Currently believed to be 25 GB per layer.  So it could go to 50 GB or even 75 GB if it's capable of triple layering.

My point is you don't want to lock down the download cap to a level equal to launch title file sizes because game sizes certainly will nto stay that small.

well, that was actually the initial point i was trying to make. If Nintendo wants to go the way of digital distribution, they will have to make sure people can fit lots of games on their HDD, and a size limit would be one of the first ideas that would come to mind. that is all i am saying.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Well if it's true that you can hook up external HDDs this won't be much of a problem for the savy gamer. But I know people who have a hard enough time trying to figure out how to use a USB stick with a lap top.
