Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: Wii U price set at $350 by Walmart

First i have to see the whole thing, and even after e3 the only thing that the price will tell me is WHEN i'll get the Wii U, though i agree with most people, $ 299 that's it... we will see.

I seriously hope this is not true. Great price for Nintendo! (Since it is a cheaper starting price and it is a next gen. console.) Bad for me. >_

350 is unacceptable and sets then up for failure. 300USD or less. Preferably 250 USD.

250 is absolutely ludicrous. That would be the same as the wii launched for 6 years ago. Only now with a tablet controller.
It would be less than half what the PS3 launched at 6 years ago and the same price as a ps3 now!
It would be $50-$150 less than what the 360 launched at 7 years ago.

I don't know what it is about gamers but a lot of them are comically tight with money. The prices of similar electronics have gone up. New phones launch for FAR more than they used. Yet people think the price of consoles should effectively decrease.

From what we know of the hardware it is looking to be quite a bit more powerful than the PS3/360 and with a pricey sophisticated controller.
I would say $300 would be very reasonable from Nintendo. While $350 would be acceptable and fair. $400 would be a little too much.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

It's up to Nintendo to prove to the consumer that it is worth whatever the MSRP is. If they don't then people are more likely to get one of the other consoles. They need a couple of those killer universal appeal games like Wii Sports if they want to catch the main stream again. They need to show the Nintendo faithful that it will be everything they were hoping for in a HD Nintendo console to keep them from going to Xbox or PS which will both probably be priced lower. And they need to prove to the hard core that they have something for them that they can't get anywhere else Nintendo wants them to add the Wii U to their entertainment center next to their PC, 360 and PS3.

@Zim
I bet the wiiu will be launching with similar power to the PS360 or at least around as close as the wii was to the ps2. I don't see how 250 USD is ridiculous even though I do believe 300 will be the price. The PS3 will drop to 200 USD and be profitable by holiday when the wiiu releases and the 360 already is there and will probably drop to 150. In fact it is right now being sold for 200 USD. Also, the wiiu doesn't even have a hard drive which will cut down on costs. The only thing it has is the controller and that allegedly costs roughly 50 USD to produce so I don't see why Nintendo couldn't release their system at 250USD.

It doesn't have a hard drive but it does have solid state memory. The same amount of solid state is much more expensive than a hard drive. Also the wii isn't anywhere near the PS2 in terms of power so that is an odd pick. The PS2 was weaker than the gamecube by quite a bit. The Wii was then a more powerful gamecube. The fact is you can actually take some Wii games and simply put them in HD and they look extremely good. Super Mario Galaxy 2 running in HD could pass as a 360/ps3 game.

All rumours point to the Wii U having a minimum of 1GB of RAM. But far more likely 1.5-2GB. For comparison the 360 has 512mb and the PS3 256mb.

Launching at $250 would make it the same price as a Vita. A new console launching at the same price as a handheld would be ridiculous.

Seriously the fact that you are stating the PS3 will drop to $200 by the holiday (which is a total guess) and then be profitable but you expect Nintendo to launch only $50 more (actually at the moment it's less) is ridiculous. Sony's gaming division has struggled to turn a profit at the best of times, the PS3 wiped out all the profits they made from the PS2. Meanwhile Nintendo posted it's first loss in 29 odd years. Why on earth would you expect them to follow Sony's lead of losing money on consoles? It's crazy.

Not only this but you state the controller costs $50 to PRODUCE!? As though that is nothing, that is massive. Simply producing the controller alone and you are $50 down?

$300 is the minimum it will launch at. At $250 I can easily see them taking a loss on it, which would be beyond stupid.

Look at the source of the article....some ad on Google. Could have easily been photoshopped.
Go to Walmart.com and you'll see there's no record of any Wii U anything.

My first thought was "That's all?".

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

$250/£199 will be great !!!

Switch!!!
