I don't think there's anything biologically wrong with them for having no desire for sex, at least not with the entirety of them. With the females, they say the guys dress like females. So it's not their fault that they don't find the guys attactive. With the guys, I think they may still find girls attactive, but simply believe they aren't worth the trouble.

The brain can be pretty powerful, and if you train it do something for so long (ignore the attraction to the opposite gender, in this case), it can eventually do so without even thinking about it.

Another example of the human brain adjusting behavoir is a person's supression of their innate agression & sexual urges. Humans naturally want to be aggressive and satisfy their sexual urges spontaneously, but when placed in modern society, such behavior is scorned upon, so the brain adapts and suppresses these urges.

I guess the same logic explains the Japanese behavior in their society. Except, they change their natural behaviors not because it's frowned upon, but because they think there are more logical alternatives (for the guys) or they simply aren't attracted to the guys' appearance (for the girls)

My wife is Japanese (she's not in this percentage fortunately), so I'll explain a bit of what I gather of this issue.

First of all, most couples are still formed because of convenience and not love. You find an adequate guy/chick and you stick to him/her. You do all you can to please them so you can stick to them. And this in Japan means a lot of pressure on you because you must always do things a certain way. Once you find a person you are doomed to the couple life. Of course you must like the person and choose one, but it's still too much about convenience.

Also, their concept of love is soooo different, they never show affection and sex is in most cases not related to love, it's that thing you do for a few minutes when you're horny. Seriously, when I first had sex with my wife she was concerned, she said I was taking to long to finish and therefore I must be not attracted to her sexually. She didn't understand the concept of enjoying and taking it slow, sex is a race to orgasm (if the woman can reach it of course). Of course it beats wanking, but affectionately it is much less important there.

And finally, there is so much pressure in Japan for people to behave certain way that there is a huge amount of people that, since they're children, feel that they can never succeed in pleasing society and as a result they have gone the total opposite way and reject any kind of behaviour that is imposed on them, one of them being dating (yes, if you don't get a couple your family will be concerned).

So it makes sense that some people reject sex, not because of sex per se, but because of everything that it brings with it.

yeah many things are problems in africa and some other places. families sell their 13 years old girls to other men to get money. these girls get their first kid with 15 or something like that. some have 10 wives with 10 kids per wive... and when the pope says "no condom", some just do it without condom even if they could get condoms for free.
