Pretty sure most countries in Asia (with a slight exception towards Japan) are PC centric. Still would sell crazy in China.

Nintendo already sold consoles in China. The DS was rebranded iQue and sold there thanks to a partnership with a Chinese company. Don't really know how it did though...

Why couldn't they just sell it as DS? I'm pretty sure it would've done a lot better.

Hmm, as far as I know gaming-consoles are not permitted in mainland china. That is an additional hurdle. But yes, getting Hongkong would help to get a foot into the chinese market.

To sell them in China, they had to change its name accordingly to the laws of the state and the will of the chinese company. They really had no other way to sell their product, although iQue is not really a great name, I agree.

Hmm, the informations on the chinese ban on video-consoles are mixed. Wikipedia says consoles are banned since 2000, and citing Kotaku as source.

But on the other hand the company iQue produce consoles with Nintendo-license for the market.

But there seems to be the catch. The iQue-Player is a N64, that is put into the controller. This seems to be a hole in the law. Other than that iQue only does handheld-consoles, including the iQue DSi. But the photograph in the WP shows a Wii-menu, so I'm totally confused.

Other than Japan East Asia seems to be a difficult market for console-producers.

Edit: Ah, I forgot. Lenovo does a home-console for the chinese market but avoids the ban by declaring it as 'family exercise device'. The advertisement is focusing on Sport games and multimedia feats it seems.
