damn dvb-t is almost useless in my area. Only state television uses it at the moment. If it would work with cable I would buy one in an instant.
Do you guys think that we can use PS3/PSP like European or Japanese after we transit to digital TV in 2009? I like the idea of carrying a portable TV with me.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

so let me know if i have this correct....
...it basically does the exact same thing as a tivoHD, except you have to have a ps3 in order to make it work. The tivoHD is $300 (USD) while a ps3 is $400 and playtv is $200. So i guess there is a slight price advantage if you already have a ps3. does this thing do anything new? I mean tivo has been around for ages...
If tivoHD isn't available in the UK, there might be a niche for this product.
In the U.S. the DVR service/recorder market is going to get a little bit cramped in 2008. It seemed to be one of the highlights at CES.
I'll be surprised if Sony brings this to the States and even more surprised if it is successful.
On the other hand, if you already have a PS3, then it's an issue of how well this thing works to justify the extra expense. I'd consider buying one, but not if it were just for recording network TV.

in the uk, there are only 5 channels that you can view through a regular antenna. any others channels/services need a set top box or a digital reciever. there is cable and satelite, which you pay for, and get masses of channels. then there is a service called freeview, which basically adds around 30 channels and some digital radio channels for free to your tv. all you have to do is pay for the set top box and you get the channels for free. some newer hdtv's come with freeview built in. basically, its extremely watered down cable/satelite. the set top boxes usually cost from as little as £20 with no pvr (tivo) functions.
the play tv acts as a freeview hd box and pvr device in one. so anybody in the uk (or e.u, if they use freeview, i dont know) that doesnt have freeview can use this as a freeview box and get 30 extra channels for free. but i think its useless because nearly everybody has a freeview set top box already.

I have a DVR and I'd buy this. My reason. My DVR box only has a 40GB HDD and can only store like 240 hours of SDTV video. Plus my mom and sister hates me taking up space on the DVR for my "sh*t" so having a separate storage device to store TV shows would be really nice.
And I'm in the USA saying this.

HD recording via cable is impossible without a cable card slot in the USA. And to get a cable card slot in your product you have to get certified which adds major $$$ to any such product because the cable companies rape you for the licenses. So the likelihood of a PS3 or 360 becoming a DVR in the USA is practically nil. The cable companies force you to use their lame products and they hold all the cards.
Nice, so i can watch TV on my my PSP through remote play?
I like the idea of being able to save live tv on my PS3 hardrive for later use, so I'm going to buy it.
I also like how if there are 2 programs i want to watch at the same time, i can record one while watching the other, so i can watch them both.
edit. oooh, i missed the pause and rewind live TV part, ive always wanted this; if im hungry i can make something to eat then continue where i left off.
