so let me know if i have this correct....

...it basically does the exact same thing as a tivoHD, except you have to have a ps3 in order to make it work. The tivoHD is $300 (USD) while a ps3 is $400 and playtv is $200. So i guess there is a slight price advantage if you already have a ps3. does this thing do anything new? I mean tivo has been around for ages...

in the uk, there are only 5 channels that you can view through a regular antenna. any others channels/services need a set top box or a digital reciever. there is cable and satelite, which you pay for, and get masses of channels. then there is a service called freeview, which basically adds around 30 channels and some digital radio channels for free to your tv. all you have to do is pay for the set top box and you get the channels for free. some newer hdtv's come with freeview built in. basically, its extremely watered down cable/satelite. the set top boxes usually cost from as little as £20 with no pvr (tivo) functions.

the play tv acts as a freeview hd box and pvr device in one. so anybody in the uk (or e.u, if they use freeview, i dont know) that doesnt have freeview can use this as a freeview box and get 30 extra channels for free. but i think its useless because nearly everybody has a freeview set top box already.
