I don´t care too much about that, what I do want is for the 'NSMB' games to be as memorable as SMB3 and SMBW were.
I enjoyed NSMB Wii, but there was something lacking, something that stops it from being as good as the NES/SNES Mario games.
Nintendo needs to improve the graphics and art before release? | |||

That's bull and you don't know it.
@Rol, I bought Donkey Kong Country for 100$ when I was 11, I think I recognize and spend for a good game when I see one. Don't badger.

Yea I knew you were being sarcastic and I personally don't really care about Nintendo putting out what some may call recycled content to some extent. Its just that people tend to overlook Nintendo doing such things because its Nintendo. Nonetheless, heck I buy every installment of pokemon that comes out even if a lot of them have 50% the same content as the previous game, but thats just because whatever new they added is too much fun to miss out on. That said, I'm sure they will add in new things to add to the experience even if its fundamentally very similar to NSMB 1, just like most good sequels do. |
Pokemon consistently improves on graphics iteration after iteration.

I never said it wasn't allowed...Deoz and some others have been saying that. I'm saying the graphics and art style look uninspired. People jumped on me for that, because I wasn't simply saying how wonderful it is or will be like the others. Regardless, this thread was created with a similar mindset as I have about this game so I am just saying I agree with the OP. |
And you are most welcome to share your shared mindset pezus. Someone has to break the tracks of the circlejerk train. I'm up for it, and I know you are too!

And those are 2 things:
1) Extremely tight controls.
2) Artistic quality.

I can change my mind you know. But if NSMB2 is said game to change my mind, man, forget about it!
I kind of have to agree that they should put more effort into arts. It seems as Nintendo is going the "take the old and put it into new" route which results in just smoother controls and colorful, simple graphics and simple melodies.
Other games have done it better than Nintendo's platformers by now. Graphics are way more detailed, music and sound fx are not just simple things (Nintendo's sound like their artists compose on 8bit chips and then just take the MIDIs and put them into newer virtual instruments lol - if they do it simple, they could at least keep the chip sound which was way more diverse than today's clean productions).
Even if Nintendo wants to keep a retro feeling there (I don't know) they should do it differently. Not by textures that remind you of the past.
Sometimes, what you want isn't what's best for you.
Suppose Disney makes a new Mickey Mouse movie to appeal to a new fanbase. Mickey's clothes are rendered in beautiful CGI and so detailed, you could see the stitching in the fabric. His body was rendered so well, you could see the fur on his arm. He was in an environment that rivaled Avatar in its beauty. It would fucking suck.
2D Mario isn't about pushing a console to its limits. 2D Mario is about taking the game back to what made people fall in love with the 8-Bit games of their childhood. Simple graphics, fun gameplay, cheerful music, and familiar themes. 2D Mario is video game comfort food and we love it. We don't want it to change. I'm gonna love it, my kid is going to love it, and maybe even her kid will love it. Hell, my non-gaming cousins that played Mario when they were kids will probably enjoy it. Meanwhile the graphical beasts of today will WISH they had the longevity of a 2D Mario game.
^It isn't taking me back there tho. The first line of your post made me smile :)
