I kind of have to agree that they should put more effort into arts. It seems as Nintendo is going the "take the old and put it into new" route which results in just smoother controls and colorful, simple graphics and simple melodies.
Other games have done it better than Nintendo's platformers by now. Graphics are way more detailed, music and sound fx are not just simple things (Nintendo's sound like their artists compose on 8bit chips and then just take the MIDIs and put them into newer virtual instruments lol - if they do it simple, they could at least keep the chip sound which was way more diverse than today's clean productions).
Even if Nintendo wants to keep a retro feeling there (I don't know) they should do it differently. Not by textures that remind you of the past.
