Can't say I have any problems with the art style. It's colourful and vibrant, just as I want it. I'd wait until we have more footage before judging it though. At this point we don't even know how it will look in motion.
At the end, what matters the most to me is the power-ups and levels, and whether or not the gameplay is as top-notch as it you'd expect from a Mario game. Nintendo would have to screw up the graphics a lot (like making them ultra-realistic or something) for me to be turned off.

@happydolphin
Don't know if there are other threads, but in NintendoLife there were complaints and negativity after those screen shots were shown, so you're definitely not alone. We'll have to wait and see what the market decides, but I'm already seeing mixed feelings. It would be terrible for Nintendo that the game doesn't sell as much as they expect because they didn't push the graphics a bit more. Hopefully the game will show more good things at E3 that spark interest to people like you, maybe online or stuff like that.

Thanks Soma, thanks forest-spirit. Those are good comments.
I was already turned off, but I'll try to get over it and now focus on what matters, the upcoming levels, the power ups, and the overall entertainment value of the game.
Thanks everyone for your comments.
Friends, this is how you make a revival:
Play4Fun's thread -> http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=4539775
I wouldn't mind seeing a few changes, or variety of different ways to play SMB, but honestly, it would lose the core mechanics and simplicity of the series itself.
Also, there isn't anything wrong with SMB's art style. It is supposed to be the way it is; and graphics isn't vital to gameplay. No change is needed there either. Besides, Nintendo has a way to make their games magical and memorable in their own right.
Should they ever decide to implement any changes, here's what I want to see:
-Multiplayer: since it happened in NSMB:Wii, I wouldn't mind Nintendo expanding this online
-Substance: It would great to show more encouragement why we are collecting items such as coins. In Super Smash Bros, we collected it to use for Coin Launcher.
-Characters: It would awesome to be able to play other characters like they did with SMB2. I would suggest limiting each character own their path, purpose, perspective and on their own worlds with their own power ups, and then add a storyline to it.
Reading my own comment, I think I want to see a remake of Super Mario Bros 2. It's fitting: NSMB2
I only came to this thread for the lulz, really, more than anything. I'm not even completely sure if this thread is even serious. Hahah!
It really has been like a religion & science and the gap argument. Specially since we don't know too much about the game, and coupled with our different views and tastes on gaming in general, there will always an argument.
There has been many bromance moments, though LOL

Now THAT would have been a superb idea! Either way, I'm not finding NSMB games memorable anymore, and this thread has alot of the "why"s.
I will revisit this thread when NSMB2 is actually released, but all in all I'm not finding this series memorable any longer personally.
All in all, it seems to lack substance, seriousness (as in taking the gaming medium seriously) and just feels like a quick buck in general. But hopefully that's only these 4 images, and soon enough we'll be able to put my fears to rest.
But so far, I'm not overly confident of the result. Also, I'd like to give a cheer for bromance
, it shows us that people actually can get along online, even when they have different viewpoints.

Well, at this time we can only assume with the game, and every viewpoint is arguable. I only spoke of it being memorable due to my personal experience. The bromances has been entertaining. I love it :)
And I'm serious about the changes I mentioned. I think Nintendo could actually create a sub Mario series based on the original SMB2, and SMW.
^And I couldn't agree more!
I loved Super Mario Bros. 2, I loved Zelda 2, and I loved Casltevania 2. I'm a fan off those quirky deviations of the NES generation, they were amazing games. Revivals of the deviations would also be fantastic.
My most anticipated of the 3 would be Zelda 2 though
I still haven't finished the first one (or the Wii game for that matter). I very much like the games, but I suck so bad at them that its... pathetic. I always rush, and then make a dumb mistake, and end up frustrating myself.
Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
