My Plasma TV broke after almost 5 years of use, so i have been TV-less for gaming for more than a week now. So im getting a new TV but I can't decide if i should go for LCD LED or Plasma because i don't know which is more suitable for gaming. I've red articles on the web comparing the 2 and some of them say that Plasma's response time are much lower so that high paced fast games like COD feel a lot better on Plasma than they feel on LCD, where it feels kinda sluggish due to bigger response time. Some also said that sun glares are also non-existant on plasmas, while on LCD LEDthey can be a problem. However, lots of people said that Plasmas have burn in picture problems, and that image quality gets worse as the TV stays turned on for some time. They also said that LCD LED image quality is top notch and better than Plasma's. So i was wondering if some of you guys can confirm or deny any this, or just put some light on the issue on which type of TV is better for gaming. But please, keep it in English, im not very tech heavy :p

Led by far

I'd say go LED. Make sure you get a full HD TV (1080p) with a high contrast ratio. You can't go wrong with LG, Samsung or Sony.

Sharp, LG and Samsung are the safe bet. My 50 inch Vizio Plasma just recently died so I upgraded to a 60 inch Sharp Aquos LED smart TV. I did a lot of research and found for the value you can't go wrong with any of the top three I listed. Sony TV are great but comparing price to the other three brand it's just not worth the extra few hundred dollars.

We need our screen experts to post here. Last time I think plasmas were proven to be better.

Does anybody know anything about 2012 year's models from Samsung (LED) and Panasonic (plasmas)?

Samsung LEDs are by for the best for the money. And as someone else said, make sure to go for a 1080p model with a high contrast ratio. The lower the response time the better (2ms is better than 5ms, etc.), and the higher the refresh rate the better (120Hz is better than 60Hz, etc.).

Cheers!

There's a reason why plasma screens have a small and dwindling marketshare and why Pioneer almost went under when going for plasma technology.
There was a time when plasma was equal to, or even better than, LCD screens. That time has long since passed, the main effort, funds and devotion lies with LCD panels now and has done just that for a few years, this results in better products on almost all ends, pure and simple.
The price of LCD panels have also gone down heavily, making them a purchase easily worth it.
Allthough plasma panels have largely shed old diseases like burn-in, ghosting and overheating, they have become inferior allrounders, there can be no doubt about that.

Buy a LED screen, you will not regret it.

Edit; adressing your points more directly:

Response times are not really a big issue at all with console gaming, the framerates of both modern games and HD movies are below the level where such things would interfere much at all with the overall experience, so this point can be mostly disregarded.

LED screens suffer virtaully no sun glare, old LCD screens did due to poor backlighting but that's pretty much it. A modern LED screen easily keeps up with a plasma in this regard. Besides, there are curtains and the simple fact that one can place the TV in such a manner that this won't be an issue. This should not be a factor in a big purchase like a TV set when the problem is either non-existant or can be easily solved.

Burn-in on plasma screens is pretty much a thing of the past, it may remain a slight issue with TV's of lower prices and model but is rarely heard of nowadays.

Image quality, in terms of shaders, layer tech, blending, resolution and, important for some; 3D, is mostly better on LED screens. Color and contrast is just about the only place a plasma has a shot at beating LCD screens.

i had a Lcd bravia 40' before it died lasted about 3years.

Ive now got a 50' plasma samsung got it for 1200$ couldn't be happier with it

Plasmas can be susceptible to screen burn-in (though if they're broken in properly, it pretty much becomes a non-issue), they put out more heat, and they're heavier.

With that said, plasma TVs definitely have better picture quality. Their contrast ratio (light to black levels) and color variance is unmatched (even by LED backlit LCDs), and their refresh rate is also far better; LCDs that refresh at 240Hz interpolate frames to refresh smoother than at 120Hz, but result in TV/movie watching having a more video taped or "soap opera" look as opposed to a cinematic look. Plasmas refresh beautifully and retain the intended video integrity. Not to mention that they have a much, much better viewing angle as well.

Bottom line, plasmas do everything inherently better, but if you intend on using it in a brightly lit room, for example, or displaying your PC on it for extended periods of time where burn-in might become an issue, LED LCDs aren't without their perks (albeit minor ones, IMO).

Best plasma brands: Panasonic or Samsung
Best LED LCD brand: Samsung (Sony's ok too)

Obviously I can't speak for all of them, but I've had pretty bad input lag with most of the LEDs I've ever tried. The most recent one was one of LG's 2011 range '47LW450u' I think; it was absolutely horrific. I had to lable the HDMI port as PC and turn off all post processing to get a 'sort of' decent response time. I'm just saying don't buy anything till you've found a review site that measures input lag!
