Forums - Sony - Sony Santa Monica Hiring for New Shooter

i hope it will be a tps action adventure or a tps rpg...

Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Halo --> Killzone & Resistance
Gears of War --> Uncharted

Alright that seemed to be a must in this thread going on past posts, but now ot:

I could be interested in a FPS or TPS from Santa Monica, one of the best developers around and they'd probably do a pretty good job.

You should also add Mag and Socom to that list. And now they want another shooter for the ps3? I still wonder why Xbox 360 still consider the shooter box. Lol

Call of duty, Halo, Gears of War <--- all of those sell really well on 360 so yeah I would argue that many people go to the Xbox for shooters.

Call of duty sells really well on the ps3 too. It's not Xbox fault for having better 1st party fps and tps exclusives and sell really well. Sony have release a LOT more shooters then the 360 and that's a fact.

sony have also released a lot more of other types of games and thats fact also, hence the reason why people state there's more diversity

I don't want a medieval RPG. I want a modern setting.

Word. When I think of RPGs in modern settings, I think of Persona 4, Shenmue and the Yakuza series, i.e. all amazing games. We've had a million medieval RPGs this gen, I wish devs would take more risks.

Yeah! that's why I love the persona series. It's awesome! I love Modern settings. That's why I am hyped for Versus (but not so much anymore right now. The more I wait the more I lost interest).

I am also hype for the new NiS RPG. It looks like it will be on a modern setting looking at the clothes of the Main characters. :)

OT:

I would appreciate if it is a TPS. I don't want a FPS. A survival Horror is very very welcome.

I'm saying it now..it's gonna be similar to Mass Effect.. a futuristic sci fi RPG/TPS

I would enjoy playing that. Mass Effect was awesome and having Sony Santa Monica working on a similarly styled game would be great to play.

That would be like an all you can eat bakery. Just to good to be true.

However, I would much rather it be more RPG than third person shooter and more RPG than what Mass Effect (and Dragon Age) are willing to go.

Well I guess its confirmed. Santa Monica Studios are looking for FPS testers.

This is imo a very good news. Now all I want is Guerrila games to make an action-RPG. If that happens Sony will be complete.

I just worry everything is FPS these days, even re6 heading that way, everything losing its uniqueness.

I think this is great news. Honestly, I'd have a team from SSM focus on an FPS and see what they could do, and move Guerilla games onto something else. That's not to say that Killzone hasn't been mostly great, but it hasn't - and probably won't - be the massive success that Sony need it to be. Give SSM a chance to see if they can make an FPS hit for Sony.

I also think (this is slightly off topic) that Sony should try and acquire another studio in Japan to work on a JRPG franchise. They have Japan Studio working with Level-5 but White Knight Chronicles wasn't really the game they needed it to be. I think Sony are sitting on a goldmine of franchises - Alundra, Arc the Lad, Wild ARMs etc. - or even a new one, that they could create.

Then again, I think Sony first-party franchises have been great this gen, so who am I to complain!

I think this game could be a replacement for Resistance, which is to be honest dying.
