ok then, show me where people said, before Vita was announced, that sony should not build another dedicated console and instead should focus on a full playstation phone. I know I remember rumors of 'playstation phone' when Play was first being launched, but that's not the same thing as I mentioned above. Also, none of that talk said Sony should not put out another dedicated console either.

The next generation of consoles won't be dedicated gaming console.  This generation is no longer about dedicated gaming consoles for that matter.  Microsoft and Sony are actively competing in the entertainment sphere.  Both want to be able to provide consumers (not just gamers) with entertainment options well beyond gaming.  Microsoft is the one most visably doing this, but Sony certainly has some chops in the game.  Neither company will give up on this, it would be foolish for them to do so.  With millions of people abandoning cable and satellite for Internet-based services, both Microsoft and Sony are poised to make millions as set-top boxes for a plethora of media options.  No one is abandoning that.

Is there an article that I can point to that says anyone suggested Sony should abandon the PS3 or any future gaming console and move solely to mobile gaming?  No, because it's a ridiculous idea.  Sony has a music library, Sony has a movie library, Sony has a game library, Sony has a network service, and Sony has hardware like Blu-Ray.  For Sony to abandon the family room by abandoning a console rather than developing it into something more, would be foolish. 

I'm not a fan of Sony, I have no love for Sony, but even I can see with all the entertainment assets that company has, you don't abandon the family room.  Like Microsoft has done, you build and you keep on building until you achieve the success you ultimately want.  The difference between Microsoft and Sony however, is that Microsoft has a much more unified vision of where the company is going.  Kazuo Hirai really hasn't shown a unified vision yet for Sony; how does he plan to bring Sony's products and services together into one company moving forward together rather than each acting individually?

I whole-heartedly agree that Sony should have done things differently with the Xperia Play and PS Vita.  The guts of the PS Vita should have been packaged in a mobile phone.  That would have brought more convergence and would have put Sony on the forefront of mobile gaming, rather than trying to play catch-up with Nintendo with the 3DS or acting as an also ran in the smartphone market.  However, I don't believe mobile gaming will overtake consoles.  Ideally they compliment each other.  Sony's problem is not the PS3, it's their lack of a unified vision that moves the company forward.  Rather different businesses acting in concert like a navy, they are ships plying the waters alone each attacking their own targets.  Too much is to be gained in the family room, and I think Kaz knows that.

Essentially we agree on the ideas here, but you still didn't support your statement that my idea wasn't orignal and that it had been talked about for years earlier.

My OP is mostly in jest and even if that person did read my thread and then make the article, who cares. I just found it funny that a very similar article came out hours after I made my post here. However, I do think my idea was rather original and I distinctly know I've never come accross anyone else (prior to me) stating something so blatantly similar that Sony should not make a dedicated portable console and instead it should just be a smartphone. Only thing remotely close would be the wishfull thinking of many that Play would have been something really nice, but at that time anyone talking about it still clamoured for a real PSP2.

Just admit that your original attack on me was wrong and in reality you know of no such discussion. Its ok, I won't make a big deal about it. really.
