Forums - General - Do you plan to introduce your children to videogames?

i didn't know kids had to be "introduced" to video games.
i think some people here setting themselves up for disappointment when they think they can have their kids replay their childhood memories. They will have their own games to grow up with.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Unsure if I even want kinds, but if I do have kids I think I will put certain restrictions on their game play. I'd rather them spend time playing sports, hanging out with friends, and studying. I played a lot of video games when I was younger, took some time away from them when I was a teen because if I didn't have homework I was out all day playing some form of sports. I only got back into games in my 20's again.

Don't want to share your console with your kid, eh?  Keeping all of that video game goodness for yourself, huh?  Very clever......

Just want them to have a healthy balance of everything.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

Too late. My 5 year old son is a hard corps. fan of Shadow of the Colossus...he has been for over 2 years now.

My friend fostered a kid about a year ago and intended to get him into video games. The kid refuses to play them, I'm certain he must be the only one in the UK to do that.

If I were you, I would have spanked him.

Absolutely, but only if my kid reads as well. Television and video games will always take a backseat to reading of any kind. I love videogames and while I think they're better than television, they still don't exercise the brain and creativity the way a good book does. I value creativity and while video games offer a bit of it, you're still playing in someone else's world. I will expect my child to be more than a passive consumer of other creations and I think the best way to break out of that mold is to challenge him/her through literature. I want my kid to create something, whether it be through music, video, writing, or art. I think it's one of the most important things a person can do.

lol parents don't need to "introduce" them to games. Games are the kind of things kids find out about on their own.

Yes I am, they will play Super Mario and Donkey Kong Country like I did,
