I thought it was pretty common knowledge that, "If you align launches", the PS3 has been outselling the 360 almost every year.  The 360 has just done a good job of maintaining some momentum and minimizing PS3's gains.

Sooo the PS3 is selling more each year?
Didnt MS say last year that they sold more or something and there was a massive melt down of fanboys all over the place (both 360 and PS3 wise because of some confusion going on.. Im not even sure what happend at the end xD).

I get that the PS3 has been on the market like.. a year less than the 360 so in that regard, it's sold better. But people dont give a fk about that, they care about those numbers. If they aint higher, shit dont' matter!

I think what happened last year was that the 360 shipped more consoles to retailers in 2011 than Sony did.  Those consoles were pretty much "Sold" in Microsoft's eyes.  At the same time, more consumers bought the PS3 in 2011.  At the end of the day, both companies could say they won the year and not be lying.

As for the year head start--think about it as a race.  If you and I were leaving your house, racing to the mall to buy the last copy of Uncharted 4 and I left ten minutes ahead of you, would it matter if I got the game and you didn't?  Yeah, you may have been faster than me but in the end, you still lost the race.  Did I cheat by leaving early?  Sure I did.  That doesn't mean I didn't win.  In a perfect world, we would have started at the same time and the faster one would have won.  Instead, you figured you were so fast that you could overtake my headstart.  Because of that, you have to wait a lot longer to get to where I've already been. --That's how I see it, anyway.  Sony started later and while they are gaining respectable ground, they haven't won, yet.

There's this place called the world... :)

It's pretty simple really.  360 outsells PS3 some markets (particuarly US), PS3 outsells 360 others (particularly Japan).  360 sells more at some times of the year (particularly end of year in US), PS3 others (most of the rest of the year).

Balanced out the PS3 has on average outsold the 360 by a small mount and hence has crept closer to overtaking it year on year (smoothing out the peaks/spikes when 360 jumps ahead a bit or PS3 closes the gap more than average).

Looking at current trends I reckon they're going to be essentially tied when the next consoles launch - or PS3 might sneak past a bit but I doubt by much.  Or 360 might keep its nose ahead depending on how the next rounds of price cutting and big titles even out between the two.



Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Suddenly it all makes so much sense! So Sony is after Microsofts Uncharted 4 after Microsoft left the house early but since Sony obviously is faster due to better conditioning or in this regard sales, they will eventually catch up and get Uncharted 4.

Now I feel all fuzzy and warm inside :'D

This is a sales website for people wanting to discuss "sales". Love it or leave it! No PS3 supporter came in to derail the threads that the 4-5 360 fans made last christmas about catching up to PS3 in yearly sales. So why is it so hard for this people to stop whining and crying over this thread and posting links from predictions or opinions 5 years or more ago. Or better yet, the great response of "ohh ahh it doesn't matter, it doesn't mater the gen is over" Who cares if the gen is almost over, we are still tacking sales every week so therefore we can talk about it whenever we want. Seriously these forums are so sad these last few years.

Microsoft shipped almost 3 million more consoles last quarter but according to VGChartz is sold 2 million less?  I guess if it did outsell the PS3 last quarter it will never be known and will just be part of the "adjustments" for this quarter.

No, there are Sony trolls and there are reasonable Sony fans. Same for MS. Don't expect a group to act similarly just because they have a common interest in gaming.
