Forums - Nintendo - Future of Mario Party?

What release strategy should Nintendo employ with MP?

Annual releases like they used too 4 22.22%

Dual releases each genera... 7 38.89%

A single release each generation! 5 27.78%

Drop MarioParty never release another one? 2 11.11%

Total:18

The question I must ask as MarioParty9 gets play constantly. What should Nintendo do with the IP we saw what Nintendo was able to do with WiiParty and how they changed up MarioParty in MP9. The question is after the franchise took about a five year holiday its back. But how do we want Nintendo to handle the IP in the future. The poll is only one question, I wish I could put a few polls as this is a more complex question. How should Nintendo use this million to multimillion selling franchise in the future?

The first question as above in the poll. With MP back should Nintendo return it to the annual release model as they did for 8 iterations. The IP showed the longevity to survive annual releases selling consistently millions of copies despite annual release. The franchise was a guaranteed pay check for Nintendo and now that the franchise is back in house they could cut out the middle man and bring in even more dough. Or should Nintendo repeated the Wii's strategy releasing two MarioParty titles each generation and maybe another party game like WiiParty this would give the WiiU more diversity. Or should MarioParty be a once a generation thing seeing a single release each generation. Or the final option one I know many want Nintendo scraps the MarioParty IP altogether instead choosing to put the resources behind.other titles, kill the party genre!

The next big issue who should take over the IP? Should the WiiParty team maintain the IP in the future keeping the title in house. Or should Nintendo hand it to a different internal team? Or maybe their is a second party studio that could do an amazing job? Or maybe Nintendo should out source the IP to NamcoBandai or Capcom or another publisher maybe Sega? Or maybe an in dependant developer like they have done a lot lately? Any idea which specific studio you would like to see take over the IP?

Its been a while since online functionality became standard. We all will want online functionality what online features do you want to see implemented? Personally I would love to see four player classic play (old school play) or new 16-player (MP9 game play) you have four teams of four competing to win the board. Local multi player of course would still be vital but new online functionality would make MarioParty unique and a must have yet again. Then if Nintendo chooses to only launch one or two MP's each generation Nintendo could release a twenty dollar DLC pack each year with four new boards some new characters and items keeping the game unique and selling for years. Or maybe Nintendo should go the free to play model allowing gamers to play MP10 but if they want more then one or two boards buy them for 5$ each if you want more characters buy additional characters for 5$ and items for 2.50$ this would be daring and risky but could lead to big profit margins. What do you think Nintendo should do with online functionality in future MP games?

How do you want to see Nintendo innovate the mini games. We had voice control, the Wiimote the touch screen. Now that we have the tablet what do you want to see Nintendo do with it? With AR capabilities of the 3DS and likely WiiU how would you like to see Nintendo add new tech innovate and switch it up. Think of any game play innovations that could occur with the new technology. Do you want to see MarioParty3D asap? Or should Nintendo keep MP virtually home console exclusive? What can Nintendo do by mixing the Wiimote and Tab together for six player or even four player? What kind of mini games do you want to see?

In other words what can Nintendo do with MP, what do you want to see them do? What would be smart from a sales and business perspective say what ever you think, lets contemplate the future of the worlds most beloved party game

New Option: Every time they think to do an MP like the first 8 ones.

And maybe when the will return to use boards with themes from the latest other Mario games.

Annual releases would kill the series again.

A Dual release would be nice but imo at this point I think a single release like SSB and MK is the best choice.

I agree.  Put out only one Mario Party for each upcoming system.  Putting one out every year like they used to simply doesn't work.  These are Nintendo fans they are selling to, not Madden fans.

Drop Mario Party, just make Wii Party with Super Mario characters and elements in addition to Miis.
Single release for each generation, not less than 2 years development cycle, this way they should be able to tap the potential of IP.

I was just thinking the next Mario Party should be a best of collection. All the best mini games from the past 9. Maybe make it a WiiU launch title. I reckon that would be the best!!

They got a lot right with this one. I think by 2024 they should put another one out. The addition of the tablet will keep it fresh. This one seems to be holding pretty well in sales and is at close to 500,000 copies sold. Not as good as the other ones but that is to be expected now that the wii is in twilight.

Hey Spurge I assume you meant 2014? I would be so freaking pissed if Nintendo waited till 2024! A twelve year period with no MarioParty screw that I'll be nearly forty ahhhhh!
