Firstly glad to hear that you are alright and seem to have no injuries. I am utterly shocked you didn't contact the police though. Adinniken said most of the things I wanted to say.
Apart from the legal issues, possible insurance problems later on etc etc it's the fact of children's safety. I guess maybe you were in shock but what in the world were you thinking? It is EXTREMELY likely that this is a person who regularly drives around the area. What with it being the edge of the suburbs and judging by the speed limit not a busy road.
From the sounds of your story it seems like he doesn't pay attention AT ALL to the road or pedestrians. Considering you say you were at a crosswalk, he had totally stopped, you then started to cross and THEN he drove into you! I honestly wasn't sure I was understanding this right first time reading and still can't quite figure out how you were holding the bumper but he couldn't see you. So you are 190lbs and I assume at least of average or above height, fully grown adult. This guy stopped at a crosswalk and didn't notice you and proceeded to drive into you, not stop when people shouted at him but only when he saw your fist hit his car hood...... you have now allowed this person to continue driving in the area that your and lots of other kids go to school......WHY?!
Honestly I'm shocked. Yes by not reporting it then it saves you a little hassle. However the alternative of not dealing with the hassle and allowing someone like that to keep driving is so much worse.
