Forums - Sony - PS4 processing specs detailed - sources

I had a Razr mouse and wireless keyboard. This was in 05-07 and everything was ergonomic but ergonomic positions promote a lazy position and put pressure on the median nerve. 8 hours of Baal runs on my Assassin a day which included constant point-click, and abilitys of both hands was a literal mash fest every day to get to 99.

Direct X is what's killing these rumors for me, I think the people making this crap up should really find out exactly that it is

A DirectX11-enabled card. That doesn't mean Sony have to offer a DirectX11-API to developers.

Direct X platform is fully owned by MS they couldn't offer it to developers even if they wanted to

I'm not sure how that works, but I'm pretty sure Sony will have no DX-API in their devkit. Might be for the reasons you give. But that doesn't mean they couldn't use this graphics-card, that has for Windows-users a DX11-driver.

I thought Sony and Ninty use OpenGL so that they aren't beholden to MS.

2. There is no rumor that says  Wii U will be using the HD 4870. That is just wishful thinkging and if you saw how many watts is uses, you'd know there's non way ANY console would use it.

It's unlikely but it is dependent on if Nintendo/AMD produce a version of the R700 with a reduced process size (which seems likely). That alone would significantly reduce the power draw of the chip.

It is pretty obvious that the WiiU will initially come with a 40nm GPU. WiiU is in manufacturing stages now, and with 28nm lines currently in the low-end yield range, and 40nm lines operating well, that is a given. Once 28nm yields are satisfactory, they will switch to a "SlimWiiU".  This GPU very likely doesn't resemble anything like an existing R700. If any company knows how to make hardware just right enough for what it is supposed to do (see Wii), it is Nintendo. I'm pretty sure Nintendo has some surprises left for the competition..

I don't doubt that. Nintendo will have optimised that GPU for their uses and probably have added some more modern elements to the chip.

I just bought an HD 6670 low profile card, and I'm not impressed by it at all. Cant even do 1080p with all effects without major slowdown. So someone with more knowledge about pc cards, feel free to correct me, but if these specs hold true, then Wii U won't be too far off and will infact be able to receive ports easily (if not the main console that does the porting, ala PS2).

Bold: You are correct.

Unbolded: WiiU's GPU crushes the 6670.

No, it doesn't. Wii U is rumored to be using the R700 series which are the 4xxx gamily of GPUs.

Shut the fuck up.

1. You got some balls to say that. Hope it was worth it.

Here is a rumour that says it'll be using it

The GPU will be custom built for the Wii U so power usage could easily change. There is no reason why the Wii U couldn't have a GPU based on the HD 4870.

Thank you Andrespet.

That's from June 2011 which is about the time of E3. A LOT has changed since then.

Devs have said its not much of an improvement over 360 and in some cases it's actually LESS capable.

If it releases with specs like that it'll be kind of weak...I want to see new technology, not old PC tech that is already outdated.

LOL! Even if they took a 2008 GPU/CPU it woud easily outperform the off the shelf PC counterparts. Why? Optimization.

These PS4 specs are a HUGE improvement over PS3. Easily. I'm sure no one wants another $600 console.

You're a PC gamer anyway so what do you care?

What a load of bollocks...

Oh people can't game on 2 systems now?

I'm going based on your comment history. You yourself say you're a PC gamer and bash consoles left and right.

Then there's the obvious "Now Playing" which you have 3 PC games.

That's an odd thing to say for a guy who fears others are stalking him. I say I am a PC gamer, however did I ever say I am not a PS3 gamer?

It's kinda hard to ignore your comments when you are praising PC and say yourself how you are considering going "all pc" next-gen. Or was that someone else?
I'm not stalking you, I see your comments and they stand out because you are you know what.

Don't know if you said anything about PS3. Will you allow me to look at your profile through your previous comments? You'll end up looking like the fool if go and get some proof.

Haha you're the one who's making yourself look like a fool. What are you trying to say I am? Do you really think I'm a PS3/Sony hater? Quite the opposite actually, I'm sure someone here could tell you that.

It's amazing how one manages to stand out just by praising PC gaming. Tells me how utterly crap this forum is for PC games and gamers.

Never said you were a PS3/Sony hater. I said you were a PC fanboy. Am I wrong?

Ohhh you shouldnt of said that, now he is going to go to your page and send you alot of messages, saying how you think your smart etc and a stalker xD.
Also don't worry about standing out, it's just some console gamers don't like us PC gamers cos we get to play Nextgen games before them and get everything in Full HD and they still have to wait a year or 2 and still might not get full HD judging by the specs xD.

There you go again! You have a crush on me or something?

BTW, Zero you DO know I have a gaming PC right? Bought it last November. You think you know me but you really REALLY don't. Stop making stupid assumptions because they're wrong.

What Devs have said that? you know any of their names??. I know Devs such as Gearbox, Epic etc have said its more powerful.

Damn right. Proper devs have said it was more powerful. Anonymous devs have just said it was less powerful. I think I will side with CliffyB and Randy Pitchford over some anonymous troll.

Actually the the bolded part of his post is accurate. Imagine you have a development team, now, if you're developing for the pc.. You can pretty much do whatever you want and then enable the player to scale some settings that'll help it run on their system.
Now, if you, on the other hand, develop for a console, you have a fixed system where you know EXACTLY what you can do. Since graphic cards and processors are different, you can directly create assets for the game, that runs well on the system you are developing for. That allows you to get far more out of it, as you minimize things that it's weak at, while maximizing things that it's good at.

Well that's the point of it anyways. That some developers choose not to .. :P minor detail.
