Forums - Gaming - Capcom's DLC marketing/planning takes things to the next level.

Ok you guys remember Asura's Wrath right? Came out a while back and Capcom has been releasing DLC for it. But this next piece of DLC just boggles my mind:

The next piece of DLC will undoubtedly be a little more controversial: it consists of four episodes, titled “Part IV: Nirvana,” and is being touted by Capcom as the “true” ending to Asura’s Wrath. As if DLC hidden on discs and countless minor tweeks expanded into full priced sequels wasn’t enough, now Capcom is trying to cash in by telling us the disc we bought doesn’t even contain the real ending to the game. “Part IV: Nirvana” will set you back $6.99 on PSN or 560 MS points and will debut on April 24th.

So there's two ways of looking at this:

-Firstly as a gamer, this clearly means that the developers just kept the true end from the disc to release it as DLC. I mean who the heck develops the ending to a game after the game has already released? Either way, consumers are getting an incomplete game when they are buying the disc.

-Secondly if you are thinking it doesn't matter because the ending you got was satisfying, then fair enough but that still does not hide the fact that this is perhaps one of the dumbest way to market DLC. Who in their right minds thought that it would be a good idea to call a DLC the "true ending", it clearly gives off the impression that the game is incomplete. If this was marketed as an alternate ending or an expansion to the story then it would be fine, but Capcom being the genius that they are probably thought it was a good idea to call it the "true ending" to entice people to buy the DLC as something unique. Well it does quite the opposite, it just annoys people who bought the original game.

Capcom has already been in quite a lot heat for having ridiculous DLC schemes, in game DLC, etc. Now it seems they are hoping to raise the bar to the next level. So what do you guys think about this?

Capcom has always been my favorite 3rd party, but this generation they have done some really questionable stuff. It will get harder and harder to support them

I'm fine with this. A game can have both a vanilla ending and a DLC ending, and both can be satisfying.

Take Mass Effect 2. You have the regular ending, which is perfectly fine, but you also have the DLC Arrival ending, which is the true ending to the game, as it's the end of the game's story. It's set after the main quest, so that makes it the actual ending. It's also the ending that the sequel picks up on.

Sort of the same as expansion packs, really. There's an ending in the original game, but the story continues in the expansion, and that's the real ending for the game.

So, all in all, perfectly fine with this.

I agree. I've started to wise up and not buy into their fighting games when a new one comes out because there will be a Super version to come out later. I bought all the Street Fighter IV's though because I didn't know they were going to have Super come out. That's why I'm not buying SF x Tekken yet.

If I was in favour of piracy, Capcom would be #1 on my list just to piss them off. As I'm not, I just have to make do with a boycott ¬_¬

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Exactly, thats the point. It shouldn't be called the true ending. Thats just something that you don't do.

So your problem isn't really what Capcom is doing, but their advertisement wording?

this game was criticized for being short... now we know why, probably this adds the 2 hours it needed to have a normal game length.

It's too bad, I played it some time ago and it looks really fun.

Is it as short as God of War?

I don't know, I actually only played the demo and never played any God Of War.

But based on the reviews I've seen, I think it's pretty safe to assume it is shorter than God Of War.  I've heard some mentioning 4 hours!
