Yesterday I watched The pirates: Band of misfits with the kids. The new (2012) stop motion feature from Aardman, makers of Wallace and Gromit. It's the first time I got to see their work in HD and it looks amazing. It's not all stop motion, it's filmed as much with green screens as LotR but apart from the obvious 'that water can't be real' the cgi backgrounds do blend in nicely with the scale model foregrounds.

The jokes range from clever to great British dry humour which had me laugh plenty of times. The level of detail is amazing, too much to take in in 1 viewing, and the action and chase sequences are great as always.

The story however is the weakest point, it never really leaves the saturday morning cartoon level. It's entertaining but pales in comparison to something like Coraline. It's all very safe and predictable. But that doesn't really matter, the kids loved it. Fun movie.

The extras on the blu-ray were well worth watching too. Awesome to see all the work and huge scale models it takes to put it together. Also best use for a 3D printer: to print the 250 different mouths for the main character alone.

And I just finished watching Star trek 2 The wrath of Khan.
The blu-ray looks and sounds great, lovely to see all the details on the instrument panels. The pacing and ambiance is excellent, especially during the submarine inspired hunt in the Mutara Nebula. I also love the design of the enterprise in this movie, cramped chrome plated corridors, darkened submarine like bridge, fits the mood well. The space ship interior makes a lot more sense then the 2009 reboot, which feels more inline with Galaxy quest. (wtf is up with those huge water pipes)
I haven't seen Into darkness yet but I doubt it will be able to top this movie.

After watching the good trek movies again, my favorites are
6. The undiscovered country
2. The wrath of Khan.
8. First contact.

2009 and 4. The voyage home come next as good fun.

Maybe not, but you should be able to have fun with it.

I rented Warm Bodies, Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters, and Dark skies. Redbox.

I think I should be happy with these movies. I really wanted to see Warm bodies.

Need to keep burning my VHS to DVD so I can dump them. When the copyright block does not stop me.

My work is giving away two free Superman Tickets! Picking up at nooon.

Wow that must take forever with how many VHS tapes you buy. I guess you burn them while watching?
Do you have a macrovision remover? I used to have one for my old CRT projector since it was reacting to the copyright block. I didn't know at first why the picture kept going dark and light all the time and went through 3 vcr's before someone suggested it was Macrovision that did it.

No. I have not idea what to do with this copyrighted thing. When a DVD goes in and the VHS ends up having that copyright thing, I just have to throw the DVD away. I think if the VHS will not copy I will just have to actually dump them. Because I have too many and I need space. The copyright thing is killing 3/4ths of my collection.

You need something like this to put in the signal chain (assuming you're not using a vhs + dvd-r combo machine)

It's not cheap though.

The last 2 days was Dr Seus for the kids.

First we watched Horton hears a who, fun movie, looks quite good with some great classic cartoon slapstick humor. Nice story too, very enjoyable .

Today we watched The Lorax. It has more musical numbers and better surround sound effects. However my wife immediately asked, is this movie made for 3D or something, everything happens front and center and the colors are too bright. Yeah it shows unfortunately, it has a lot less depth in 2D then Horton hears a who.
The story starts ok, but I lost interest halfway through and read Game of Thrones instead. I'll see the rest tomorrow if they want to watch it again.

So I watched three movies over a friends house today. Also watched them in the same order I would rank them. First I watched Life of Pie which is a very good it had excellent visuals and a very good story and the twist towards the end of the movie was very interesting. My favorite Ang Lee movie is still Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Pie has better visuals but Crouching still has a better score and a slightly better story. Next I watched The Impossible which was also pretty good put not quiet as good as Pie the actor that played the oldest son pretty much stole the movie and they did a very good job with recreating one of the biggest natural disasters so far this century. And finally I watched Ted it was decent but I was expecting a lot more, overall it was enjoyable but it had a lot of meh moments also.

Takashi Miike is back with Lesson of the Evil

highschool teacher goes AMOK. the one thing about this movie that surprised me is the fact that Miike got a bit soft because theres is still kinda of a happy ending which Im not used to neither is he  but still there are some tracks left of his insanity in some scenes ..there are no words to describe the main character a happy cheerful guy without empathy lol..and the movie has no dark vibe or anything like that except some minor scenes..a very good example on how amok movies should be made. best thing is there are no stupid scene like when someone survives out of stupidity or by accident.

8/10

from Takashi Miike I also recommend

Just watched 21 Jump Street a couple of hours ago definitely better the Ted.

You should definetly try to watch Pie all the way through it is very good.  I watched through a projector so it was almost as good as watching it in theaters.
