Labyrinth. 7.5/10 perhaps 8 due to nostalgia.

It looks a bit dated nowadays and on blu-ray you can easily spot the painted background, wires, and blue-screen outlines. Yet that just gives it an extra bit of charm for me. The decors and puppets are fantastic, very imaginative and somehow still feel more real to me than all the fancy CGI nowadays. I forgot how much of it all there was in this movie, and the Escher maze still looks great.
There are some questionable elements too, like David Bowie's choice of pants and he's basically trying to seduce a 15 year old for the entire movie. Anyway can't go wrong with this movie if you're looking for some 80's fantasy charm.

I just saw The Lego Movie. It's so good! I don't know if the spoiler tag works now, so I won't add any. I'll just say one thing about it: everything is awesome. 9/10.

Hugo 6/10

I watched it again today, didn't grow on me. I love the idea and the homage to the origin of the movies, yet it also represents everything I hate about heavily processed digital masters. The picture is very soft with such a heavy yellow and blue filter that shadow detail turns into a blue haze. It makes the old stock footage look much better in comparison. Btw why did they feel the need to not include the actual original first film. It looks like it, but it's not the same.

I like the parts where they explore the past, how the early movies were made, the first special effects. I hate every part Borat is in. The movie generally progresses at a glacial pace, the extra bits about the other people in the station just manage to slow it down instead of keep it interesting. It's a bad combination of Cinema paradiso and Home alone forced humor.

I don't know why this got so many awards, but I haven't seen it in 3D. Maybe the 3D clockwork and constant volumetric smoke effects make you forget about the terribly paced story.

Fury

looks good, drama feels a bit forced but surprisingly it was not the actors fault they did a good job..soldiers run around and die like flies which is stupid and kills the experience and somehow 200 soldiers cant shoot a guy on a tank. loved the one battle tanks vs german tiger tank what a beast (i think it was called tiger)

Tsubasa Ozora

Keiner kann ihn bremsen, keiner macht ihm was vor. Immer der richtige Schuss, immer zur richtigen Zeit. Superfussball, Fairer Fussball. Er ist unser Torschützenkönig und Held.

Love Exposure (japanese)

innocent, beatiful, sick, provocative, ridiculous, fun..its a blast. I didnt even realize it was 4 hours long. story and directing could have been done a bit better.. in some parts it felt like I was watching something entirely different and thats why it wont get a perfect score. this is one of the best and most entertaining japanese cinema has to offer. goes into my collection

9/10

dream home (hong kong)

Today our 3 year old asked to watch that movie again, the one with the baby, that one with the maze, and the hands. Looks like Labyrinth is a timeless classic. He watched the whole thing again today, then wouldn't stop talking about Hoggle and the bat (owl) coming in the house.

He's my son alright, preferring hand drawn animation and puppets on real sets over cgi :) Now I've got this song stuck in my head

Canada post lost my biggest order this year, 8 blu-rays in one package. Today they finally replied, sorry can't find it, what good is a tracking number if you can't keep track of your frigging parcels.

Luckily for me Amazon immediately offered to replace it free of charge with one day shipping, should be there tomorrow by 8pm, hopefully. Then I can finally watch The wind rises. That movie is cursed!

Beyond the black rainbow was on sale on cyber monday, should be arriving soon too, together with Dawn of the planet of the apes. Good times ahead :)

I just looked up Love exposure, interesting. Added to my watch list.

indeed good times it has been a great year for me found some gems have a few more japanese movies to watch then its time for a new to watch list.
