Forums - PC - New SimCity requires internet connection to play

Sigh, I will still buy this, but it is rather annoying

EA seem to be getting worse and worse, the quality of their games is still on the whole good, but there is nothing really new from them. We saw new IPs like Dead Space and Mirror's Edge at the start of the generation, but now they seem more interested in reviving old ones....

When was the last time that EA released a game where they didn't immediately try to sell you more stuff? This is just getting silly

To be fair C&C was screwed the second EA bought Westwood.

they still come out with these games. I remember a sim city game years and years ago.

I bought Heroes VI and at first I didn't mind the fact that it required constant internet connection, but lately whenever my internet accesss stops working for a few seconds, I have to restart the game (most of the time in the middle of a battle) and lose my progress. Yes, it's extremely annoying, but Heroes 6 is such an incredible game that I rather have to deal with this tha not get to play the game.

There's no crack for it yet?

I didn't buy Heroes6 for the very same reason. More money to spend on 3DS.

so you never game on a laptop when you dont have internet? i cant count the hours ive burned in civ/simcity/C&C off line ... single player off line is a must... multiplayer is a nice option and great for showing off, but single player is needed,

EA i know you wont, but set it up like minecraft ... id still pay up to 60usd for it if you did, and i hate you. man managing my own sim city server would be pimp, and till have a single player offline mode woooo

Nope. I don't own laptops... only game via home. The only long trip I've taken where I wanted portable entertainment, I bought a DS and a couple games. Sold them when I got back. If I take a job where I travel more, I'll have my smartphone with games/movies or I'll buy a 3DS.

Civ and SimCity take too long to play for me to want to do it on a laptop.... I hate using mousepad on those games and I don't memorize the short cuts keys.

Laptops are just as bad as tablets for gaming. Unless you actually hook up a real mouse and keyboard to your laptop.

The global influence, thing stuff sounds neat if it actually works. (given Maxis recent record with spore though)

However, they should give an option to play offline. I'm normally okay with DRM like steam. However constant online is annoying. Even though I mostly always have online.

There's an offline mode and the only difference with the online one is that you don't get to level up some swords. Nothing more. Some times I wonder why I bother being connected all the time and not try offline mode instead.

No, they all have keyboards and mice! I know a trackpad isn't idea, but it works fine in many many games, just no an FPS or something.

You can of course forget about this because you can conncet controlers to both. For my tablet, you can just connect a DS 3 and I have a wired Xbox 360 controller for my PC. The great advantage of a laptop is of course STEAM and the much better games avaliable for the platform (and mine has enough power to run even the newest games on medium at least)

I'm sorry I just hate the trackpad/ balls or whatever the hell is there instead of a real actual mouse.  Try playing SC (or any FPS, RTS game) with a trackpad then get back to me.  If you say you can then you are playing against dumped down AI or shitty players.   Hell, I'd probably blow up a laptop trying to play Civ on it with a trackpad.
