It has 85 points on Metacritic, seems to be good, altough Ign gave it 7.5

IGN also gave Papa & Yo a 4/10 (70 on metacritic). It's like they're trying to be more harsh to improve their image. Well, I still want impressions from those who have been playing it. How is it in comparison with the first?

I know Zarx loves it, he said it had some issues but its great overall. And 7.5 is not a bad thing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow had the sam score on Ign and it was awesometacular.

So I see you've played it for over 10 hours. How are your impressions so far? Is it better than the first? I'm enjoying the first one as we speak. Better than I expected really

I would say it is better than the first so far. The game is massive 10h in and I am still in the first area lol, and I just got my seccond proper dungeon solving item. Which is not to say that the dungeons I have done haven't each added new puzzle mechanics, just they weren't in the form of an item that you got. The side quests are mostly fetch style quests but they give incentive to explore the world and enter side dungeons. The combat is fast and fun, the no blocking mechanic insures that you are constantly moving. Death is a very agile character and fast travel makes getting round the world painless. The art direction is great and even better than the first game in places. Bosses are good but nothing amazing so far but they keep them interesting. Music is generally very good as well, but the voice acting can be a bit hit or miss.

Now for negatives there is a bit of a lack of polish. The UI is clunky in places and there are issues like for the map there is a prompt saying to press the A button (for 360 controller) but pressing the left stick actually changes it, and you have to use the right stick to scroll arround the map. On the more technical side there are a lot of low res textures and backgronds/skyboxes tho considering the size of the world it's kinda understandable, tho it i a pitty that the great art can't be properly enjoyed in all it's glory at least on a high spec PC. Alos there is a lot of popin on the overworld, which is pretty barren for the most part. On PC there is a distinct lack of graphics options with just resolution and VSync (which doesn't seem to work properly, I forced it and FXAA in the driver which works great), pre release one of the devs said there would be a config file for those that wanted it but that is MIA whith just an empty config folder in the install directory, which is a shame as the shadows are really low res. There are a few camera issues as well during frantic combat, with massive enemies blocking the screen lol.

The game is a bit on the easy side so far (playing on hard) but that might be because I am using some of the pre-order/DS1 achivement/register gear, and doing side quests. There is also no fall damage at all even when you fall into lava etc, which makes the platforming elements (which aren't especially hard) rather trivial. Tho I am still early game so that might ramp up.

Overall it's a tonne of fun and a really great game so far.

A word on the missing PC features

http://community.darksiders.com/go/thread/view/138731/29316789/?sdb=1&post_num=36#

"During the Community Summit both Jay Fitzloff and I (Mathew Everett) were under the impression that full .config files and final keyboard/mouse and controller hookups were going to work as promised when the PC version of the game launched. That was the plan at the time from a specifications perspective.

Unfortunately, especially at the end of the development cycle, sometimes things change at the last minute, and this was one of them. This puts us in an uncomfortable spot as we were acting on the best information we had at the time, and it has turned out not to be in the final game (at this point).

Since it was always the intention to implement these features, as I type this, the development team is checking to see what items can get added into the game. While I can’t promise what can be done, I can promise we are working with the proper teams and have expressed the importance of including them in a patch.

For attendees of the community event who reported the information that everyone thought was true at the time: our apologies. We did not mean to put you in a position of putting facts out there that would prove to be inaccurate: you are our partners (and our friends). Please link this post to your sites so that your fans know the error was not intentional on anyone’s part and we are doing everything we can to address it. We will circle back when we have more information. And, once again, our sincerest apologies to both attendees to the Community Summit, and their fanbase for the mistake on our part.

Hopefully a patch is coming soon

just started the first one as well so I'm interested in opinions as well. As for the second one. While the metacritic is only slightly higher than the original, the user scores for the ps3/360 is currently a 9.2, the highest a game has gotten in a very long time and signifcantly better than the 7.7 user score of the original. I have a feeling this is the case of the game not being very popular or super unique and artistic, so professional reviewers are criticizing it more than they would a blockbuster like halo or an artistic sudo game like journey.

While I would be wary of user scores for exclusive games, indie games, and for games with unpopular publishers (EA/Activison), I think there will be very few troll scores on either spectrum for a game like darksiders 2.

Regardless I'm excited to get this game once I finish the admitingly somewhat repetitive original and when this goes on sale.

PC patch is up, seems to be just stability fixes

We're committed to supporting our community and this first update should resolve some of the issues you are experiencing.

The following issues have been fixed
- Crash on startup / when the game launches
- Update to the Readme file

As always, thank you for your patience! Our team is working hard to address issues quickly & will keep you updated on the progress.

That's a bit sad, and happens with all of these types of games. It's a huge problem for me personally. The more you like the game, the more you will want to explore, grind and do side-quests, but the price is a much less challenging experience. (it's a very difficult design problem, so I don't blame the developers)

Is there a harder difficulty than "hard"? And will NG+ open an even harder difficulty?

There is a NG+ not sure if it makes the game harder tho. There is a higher difficulty mode that unlocks after finishing the game but that has permadeath which is a bit too extreme for me lol.

Nintendo and PC gamer

So it seems once more that when a game is finally out and reviews are in, all talk about it just dies down.

Today is the official release date in Europe.

Any other members who bought the game yet? Give us your impressions. (but without spoilers PLEASE) Zarx at least... are you still there lol?
