Forums - Gaming - 5 games that prove Japanese devs are still relevant

Like the list, I'd take out El Shaddai and put in a really high selling Nintendo game like Mario Kart Wii, and then take out Binary Domain and put in one of the best definitely Japanese RPG's that actually sold very well in the West like Lost Odyssey or Valkyria Chronicles, or alternatively you could put in Xenoblade as the best of the operation Rainfall games which shows that gamers still care about Japanese developed games.

Around the Network

I think I understand when people say the japanese devs are irrelevant this gen. I don't think people refer to Mario or Nintendo games when they talk about japanese devs because Nintendo devs don't represent all of Japan. Nintendo will always be relevant and a huge player in the industry.

The picture is different if you talk about other devs. Devs that were mostly dominant previous gens. Outside of forum communities when people are waiting for big games they're waiting for games from America and Europe. The giants of previous gens are not giants anymore, Take Two, EA, Ubisoft, Bethesda and Microsoft, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica etc make the big guns every year.

I think what hes trying to exclude third party games, like how you see no first party nintendo games. Also I think he's just showing how Japan really hasn't gone anywhere this gen they still develop very different unique games to the market like they always did, except with much less games this gen.
