Forums - Sony - Vita Sales outside of Japan

Sony will be saving big Vita announcements (including COD and maybe a MH) until E3 and will hope that both will be must have games. Problem is that until E3 there will only be a few games and probably no system-sellers.

So vita sales worse than the 3ds at launch but people on here claim that sony is doing amazing. how does that make any sense

Without order nothing can exist - without chaos nothing can evolve.

whats more likely is a price cut this holiday season, but there's a bigger chance that won't happen.

kaz hirai, is set on making profit with the playstation brand, so if there's room for a cut, he'll make it, but i think retailers will make the cuts for Sony this holiday season.

for me Vitas worst market is Jappan right now. Vita's preformance ww is limited to its software. no established ip,= the performance you see to day

The Vita is only in its fourth week in the Western markets, so it has yet to stabilize. Also, based on the size of the American and European market, the Vita should sell at least at twice the rate as in Japan.

This is also why 3DS sales outside of Japan need to be considered poor at the moment.

The 3DS sales are doing fine. So are the Vita sales in the US and Europe right now, but they are dropping very quickly, just like they did in Japan. The sales will eventually stabalize, but the number of sales wont be very good. Probably around 10k in each territory per week.

You are new to the forums, probably also rather new to the site as a whole, so you don't realize what good sales actually are.

200k units worldwide is a low number. The 3DS being #1 in weekly sales means absolutely nothing. 300k would be a good number. When the DS hit its stride, it moved over 400k units each and every week. The 3DS isn't even close to pushing such numbers.

Vita sales are atrocious and they haven't even bottomed out yet.

I'm not new to the site, just the forums lol. I know 200k units per week isn't great, but it's decent. Most people(including myself) are just waiting for the 3DS lite to come out, once that happens the sales will shoot up to DS levels. I agree about Vita sales being atrocious though, Sony is in a lot of trouble. If they give the Vita a price cut they will lose a ton of money since they are already selling it at a loss or just breaking even, and if they don't the system will fail and a lot of money will have been wasted on development of the system, so theyre in a lose/lose situation.

Add me! :)

It's selling bad... And while it launched with a lot of good games, now the calendar seems empty. Until E3, the only relatively big game is Resistance: Burning Skies and is not that big. It wouldn't be so bad if it can keep these sales until then, but it doesn't seems likely. It's too far away!
This sucks, because is a great system and I think the price is right.
An exclusive Call of Duty would probably help to sell more in America but it's not coming out, at least until August.
A new Monster Hunter would definitely increase sales in Japan, but that doesn't look likely since Capcom's 3DS announcements last year. Square-Enix could help by releasing Final Fantasy X with extra content a la Persona 4: The Golden. But still, it's a multiplatform release so nothing really big. It should be a timed exclusive, but that's too late.
The system's health in Europe should be ok with annual releases of FIFA and PES. Gran Turismo would probably take Poliphony 5 years to develop and its launch depends on the system is not dead by then.
Oh, well. I just hope Sony finds the solution...

oh yeah Price!

SOAAAAAAAAAAP!

Wow!... That made no sense.

summing it up. price, no games with big names, that cater to the market. rpg's are likely handhelds biggest strength in every market.

@RolStoppable, if i keep agreeing with you, i'll have no choice but to vote against who ever goes against you in the next round of the best user tournament.

I really doubt there will be an exclusive Call of Duty for the Vita, the Nintendo DS didn't get one and that sold incredibly well, unlike the Vita. It will probably just get a port of Black Ops 2, if sales pick up and there is a price cut. That might help sales a little bit, but not that much since most people will just buy it on a home console.

as you quite rightly say, the Vita isn't in the best place to be right now, but there are ways it can do well, once COD Vita hits, sales in America will increase greatly and don't forget about Assassin's Creed and the inevitable Madden too, they'll sell well and should increase sales a fair bit

Europe should be ok until COD hits, and then hopefully GT PSV comes out next year which'll help sales there

Japan is the realy issue, I'm not totally sure where they'll get the big seller for there, I can only think maybe a Metal Gear game, I don't think the 3DS version of snake eater is doing that well, so maybe that'll cause Konami to consider Vita releases

I believe a Call of Duty is an obvious game, every system except the PSP have had every CoD game and why would Monster Hunter be anounced at E3 when is a japanese game?
