Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition announced for iPad:

http://www.baldursgate.com/news/2012/03/21/baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition-for-ipad-3/

Details are scant, except that it will have all the content of the PC version and it's due for release this summer. IGN has impressions:

Judging by the photos in that first link, it seems like the biggest problem is that the BG UI doesn't scale well to a 2056 x 1536 display.

While we wait, if you're looking for a kickass WRPG for your iPad, I strongly recommend Avadon: The Black Fortress. It doesn't have voice work or much high-quality artwork, but it does have a kickass story, an elegant turn-based tactical combat system, skill trees, surprisingly good inventory management, and (holy crap!) difficult moral choices with actual consequences:

Isn't the enhanced edition coming to PC too??

The Baldur's Gate site doesn't exactly say, but the IGN site suggests it is. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure it is.

I want to see how successful this will become. It'll be interested to see if the ipad can sell PC games.

I agree with this. I can't imagine that the typical BG fan is an avid tablet gamer at all and more casual customers won't care much for the complexity and story, nor will they like the endless clicking, pausing and selecting required to perform actions in-game and not actually die all the time.

Playing BG I and II with anything but a mouse and keyboard makes me shudder, this is really not a title to be played with touch controls. Selecting through sub-menu's, leving up, equiping characters and combat in general will be a nightmare unless they make massive changes.

Yeah, with all the controls on a keyboard and a mouse, I don't see how any tablet would be able to replicate that with strokes and on-screen buttons (which can't be as easy to use as actual buttons)

Definitely looking forward to the iPad version. I have the original BG as well as BG2 Collector's Edition from way back when they released. I re-bought them again when they released on GOG for $9.99 each (as my original games are at my parent's house in California and I'm in Japan). I'll definitely pick up both of them again for the iPad.
