I've felt like that for quite a while about this site, but still enjoy viewing the sales charts.
I can also promote my son's band to the user demographic that frequent this site and encourage people to check Big Sixes out...hint hint :P

If you find a site that actually has original stuff on a daily basis I would like to see it. I will say that this site can get out of your mind slow, but other than that seems to be fine. |
the 2 story threads or whatever you'd like to call them that you made(they were great, i still love them, and they were well written), are a step in the right direction. they are creative, original, and an interesting/great read.
i was hoping that those threads would inspirer more creativity but i see i was wrong. i still love the idea of creating original threads that engage the community taking the site in a different direction, but from what i can tell, no one is willing to take the time to do it
it's just like the to game ideas i've been working on (which are so unbalanced i'm no sure i'll ever post them) which i think would provide an interesting dynamic to the site.
i know you want me to finish the RPG game i've been working on, but my new idea is just as good. the rules of this idea are simpiler. shouldn't take but a wk, but the RPG game has taken a yr. to put together, and will likely take longer after i rewrite everything.
Redudant? change what we do and how many different things we have to do to keep the community engaged. that's how you fix the problem. we don't have to be repetitive, we can change the game, avoid the usual, and we might be able to find a solace in this dim light.
Without mentioning the forums I do feel the sales aspect has taken a hit. I find each game database page lacking in information and personality, while still being slow to navigate through. It wasn't the most profesional but I really enjoyed the layout that included coloured backgrounds on each game page, along with the rainbow sales bar - the whole page was easy on the eyes and it was easy to digest all the information. Weekly sales charts also have much less available information, and you can't specify by console or publisher anymore.
But GamrReview has been coming along nicely, these writers seem very capable. Also quality control of articles is much better. GamrTV was promising too, sadly that didn't work out.
Very excited for to see this site after the upcoming changes.

Well I believe game database will be full effect in the new site now. Hopefully it is awesome.

Oh my goodness that looks horrible! xD |
It was pointless linking to those pages as they no longer load properly (css positioning is all out of whack) the site never looked like that.
VGC 1.0 was awesome because it was simple, and had all the cool features like graph tools and sales charts down for the top 200 games each week which you could also search by console or publisher, and the forums weren't so bulky. (and there were fewer ads, but can't blame ioi for that as the whole internet is going that way, and back then he had a job)
Don't get me wrong there have been a number of improvements, the forums are ultimately better now in the last few months what with options like the My Topics and Latest Topics filters... and on the sales side of things we now get UK/FR/GE software numbers. It's just that the improvements seem to have been at the expense of other good things, and sometimes we had to fight to get back simple features that were dropped for no sensible reason (the forum buddy which in VGC 1.0 was on all pages only got back to the same functionality (highlighting new posts and quoted posts) because people complained. Also for God knows what reason we can't alter colours in the rich text editor. And when the ability to add games to our collection was introduced we used to be able to view a table of other users who had the game. Another thing is that we could navigate from any page to the sales or graph feature we wanted in the drop down navigation... yet for some reason in the months that have gone since the hub page was dropped there still isn't a drop down on the VGChartz tab at the top of the page, which would have been like a 5-10 minute fix.

Hmm, I kind of agree and kind of disagree with the OP. I come here a lot more often now than I did last year but I come here solely for the social side of it and discussing things with old and new members alike. I don't really pay much attention to the sales numbers any more, its become too jumbled and cumbersome when divided into so many regions and with so many charts and numbers to keep track of.
I spend my time only on the forums and I don't think I've read a single review or news article this year for some reason. I guess it boils down to two things; I don't care about reviews anywhere any longer and as for gaming related news, I mostly go other places for those.

Stop being so frickin lazy and do something about it. You want VG Chartz interesting, make a good thread!
I think things will get a little more exciting around E3. Wait until then :)
