Neogaf and most respected forums seem to do alright with similar policy. I think vgchartz will manage somehow.

but whats with your pic? i think your pic is much more disturbing. people seeing that at work think i will plan my suicide at a suicid internet site or something like that^^

Disappointed is one way I can describe this. For starters... People are afraid of a little bit of skin being seen by friends and work colleagues but not guns, weapons and death in general, society needs a reality check to get it's priorities right I think.

Secondly... I loose my perv! Thanks for drawing me to the site.

Why? Just because someone makes a "Topless Avatars Taking It Too Far," (or whatever) thread doesn't mean we suddenly need rules and restrictions on what we decide our avatars are. Some of the rules are fine, but the one about no topless men is stupid. I'm 100 percent straight, but a topless guy isn't a problem. Why do you think men go topless at swimming pools? It's normal for a guy not to have a shirt on. My avatar has a couple topless guys in it (RHCP FTW!!!) and it's 100 percent not sexual. Does this mean I'm gay? Hell no. Is there any problem with it? Hell no, again. I think these rules are completely unnecesary. (Forgive me if I spelled anything incorrectly. I suck at spelling.)

I think your spelling was all fine... good job! xD

To address the issue:

While I'm reluctant to compare the two sites so often, on NeoGAF signatures aren't even allowed and I can probably only think of one shirtless avatar that I remember from the site (which wasn't outright sexual and has now been changed). Obviously the rule can be tweaked and changed but the level of inappropriate avatars was becoming excessive. Regardless of where you're browsing the site from, no one needs to see hyper-sexualized avatars of shirtless men as well as women in bikinis just because they want to read some news on their favorite games. The rule is still up for discussion but I'd ask for people to be mature on the issue and discuss it in a civil manner.

If you want to restrict overly sexualized avatars, go ahead. But these rules cover avatars that aren't sexualized as what appears to be a knee-jerk overreaction. Be more strict with the people pushing the boundaries, not the people who happen to like an attractive avatar. As Mr Khan said in the other thread, "no cleavage" is an absolute joke of a rule.

Also, there are many shirtless avatars I've seen on NeoGaf. Most who have them stay in the gay/bisexual thread, however.

I have a suggestion.  For people that it bothers maybe there should be an option to turn off the avatar pics.
