I want to know what people think about DLC?

I posted my view in this thread:

The thing is, I don't mind DLC, as long as it's not on disc, presented months after release, and is not expensive.

Putting DLC is the disc is a flat out scam.

Months after release adds reply value, don't give me something a couple weeks after the game releases, because then I feel like I have to rush through a game and play the DLC, not to mention I just spent $60.00 bucks on a FULL game.

If you make DLC ,then it has to be a good price, don't make it so my Wife yells at me when she sees the bill at the end of the month, and the DLC only lasted 1-2 hours.

What do you think next gen will bring?  DLC micro transactions? DLC packed with the game, make you pay up front for it? Alternate ending DLC packs? DLC before the game is released? to get you into the story, kinda like paying for a demo.

I have gotten to the point where I don't buy DLC anymore. The main reason is because the map packs are overpriced. I'm mainly a FPS gamer and with yearly releases of games for the same series I just wait to buy the next installment instead of the overpriced map packs.

It depends on the type of DLC, and how and when it is presented.

For example:

Resident Evil 5: MP DLC, making me pay for MP that is clearly on the disc, think again you bastards, it aint gonna happen.

Mass Effect 2: The Shadow Broker, so worth it!

If it's already completely on the disc, and done when you buy the actual game, it's nothing more than a scam.

The ones I usually don't buy are MP map packs, always overpriced and not worth it.

The DLC possibly detracts form the final product.

I understand developers have to deal with rising development costs (partially their own faults) inflation etc, while not really being allowed to increase game price much. DLC is a way to increase game price.

For instance ME3 the protheun is annoying. The not having certain costumes and Colosseum battles in FFXIII-2 is annoying.

But at that same token I've put more hours into XIII-2, and probably will put more hours into ME3, not counting any possible DLC I might buy than any other games this year. So it's still worth though, it does drop my opinion of the game a little.

The biggest thing I find annoying, is how non integrated DLC often feels from the main experience. It doesn't usually feel part of the main experience. Even ME2's the shadow broker and Overlord had different mechanics than the original game.

Personally I'm willing to pay more than 60+ for my favorite franchises so in essence they can milk me. But, if other franchises do it, or a game I"m on the edge about, I'm probably less inclined to buy it.

I buy DLC if i think it is worth it, and i don't care if it is on the disk already, actually i even prefer on the disk, because it won't fill up my Harddrive that way.

paid DLC is here to stay, no matter in what form or shape, unless people stop buying it.

And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I very rarely buy dlcs - only two that I can remember. As someone not too bothered with MP, the majority of MP-based dlc is pretty useless for me, even for games I like I dont ever get em simply becos they arent necessary to the story.

I pretty much agree with you. DLC is fine imo as long as the content of the DLC is worth the price, and it isn't released near the release of the actual game, which in turn excludes on-disk-DLC (which doesn't even make sense).

I think that if people had put up enough of a fuss, (like maybe not buy them) the high price DLC for a couple of maps would change for the better.

I hate the way they're doing DLC right now. DLC should be released months after the initial game release, to extend the playtime and life of the game, but when it's available day 1, that's just shitting in the faces of gamers.

Well, I'm at least one gamer who is putting up a fuss about the overpriced DLC.  Will that change anything, most likely not, but at least I'm saving money in the long run .
