Forums - Sales - The Wii will not pass 100 million

Just because YOU don't want it to reach 100 million, doesn't mean it won't.. As people have mentioned here, Nintendo still has room for another $50 price drop, not to mention there is still DQX, which will boost its sales heavilly in Japan, and let's not forget during the holidays each year, Wii should recieve a huge boost, well over enough to get it over the hump. It might take a couple of years, but to think it will NEVER sell another 5 million, when it has already sold 95 million in only 5 + years is downright foolish with no basis, and to me must only mean it is wishful thinking on the part of HD twin fans, who still can't get over the fact that Nintendo actually came in first this gen.

Wii got a price cut last year. Didn't really do much. Another one won't do much either especially with the Wii U on the market.

This holiday people will be buying Wii U not Wii.

Even if the Wii U sells strong throughout the Holiday Season and during it's launch the Wii will still sell over (or at least) 100 Million. It always has strong Holiday's (just look at last year) even when there are new things in the market. I'm sorry Gilgamesh but your prediction it flawed, even people who hate the Wii can see it.

Well, we don't really know what it did. Without one it may have only shipped 8m.

Will crawl to 108m eventually, I think. It's amazing how fast Nintendo manage to kill off their consoles

At least in Japan that is.

And Europe. N. America very low too.

The DS stands at 1'000 Hardware sales as of last week for Japan and 22'000 Hardware sales in USA. It really just depends upon what country your in. NOJ obviously has better strategies than NOA for killing of Hardware.

We'll pretend Nintendo cancels the Wii at the one-year anniversary of the Wii U's release. And we'll assume they release the Wii U in mid November this year.

Going with your assumption that after Wii U releases it'll average 25k a week, for the one year afterwards, it'll have 1,300,000 sales.

Now, we'll pretend it averages 75,000 a week until Wii U releases. That's 2,400,000 sales.

Together that's 3,700,000 sales. That's with rather conservative estimates, and that's completely ignoring any possible sales bumps, including those caused by one or two more price cuts and a holiday season. I find it extremely possible that it'll be able to scrape up that last 1,100,000 sales.

Try 50m+ ...

LOL
Wow that's a lot.
I was just making a guess and didn't want to overestimate since overestimation on behalf of Sony usually ends up met with a lot of venom, honest mistake or not.

Won't do much, but will definitly make an impact. Though in reality, Nintendo probably doesn't even NEED a pricecut to pass 100 million.

Anyway, PS one still sold after the PS2 launch, PS2 after the PS3 launch, GBA after the DS, DS after the 3DS, PSP after the Vita, you get the idea..Will sales slow down? Certainly. But it's pretty naive to assume that sales will suddenly come to a screeching halt once the console's predecessor is released. There will always be budget gamers looking to get a cheap console, especially one with the mass appeal of the Wii.
