Wario Land: Shake It! - A highly underrated platformer which I highly recommend. It would take an absolute maniac (or RolStoppable) to get 100% on this game. Highly challenging and incredibly fun.  I love the word highly.

100 percenting that game isn't too bad once you actually attempt it.  At first, it may seem impossible to beat some of those bosses without taking a single hit.

I almost gave up on the last boss but I persevered.  Getting a 100% in that game was super satisfying.

I made a Pachter thread yesterday. So this crazy one will go here.

Michael Pachter talking negatively about the Wii U is nothing new these days, but this time around he seems to be implying that Nintendo’s direct competition doesn’t really think Nintendo is a threat anymore. So far as to pretty much predict Nintendo is on a down turn and the Wii U releasing early wont make a difference. This is despite the recent report of Nintendo’s dominance of the Japan market in owning the top 10. In a conversation with Examiner he had this to say:

“Yes, they’ll give Nintendo a head start, and no, neither of them is concerned about the impact of a head start. They won’t say it, but both manufacturers think Nintendo’s glory days are behind it. I don’t think the Wii U’s head start will make much difference at all, since I don’t expect it to be any more powerful than current generation consoles, but maybe Nintendo will surprise me.”

Pachter also outlines what he has identified as the three major problems facing console makers today, and the greater gaming industry on the whole.

“First is [the] migration of casual gamers away from consoles and handhelds to mobile and social games. Second is gamer fatigue with few new intellectual properties introduced recently and mostly sequels in the 8th year of the cycle. Third is the increasing popularity of online multiplayer that absorbs as many as 500 hours per year, for around one third of the console gaming audience without generating significant revenue.”

All of these are pretty valid points. It’s safe to assume the casual gamers have migrated off of console gaming such as the Wii or Kinect. While sales are still doing well for proven series, it’s also true the industry on the whole has failed to innovate with new IPs. This is leading to a bit of fatigue in general. The last point is hard to measure since so many games also play online, but these games wouldn’t include the feature if the game itself wasn’t profitable right? It’s hard to know in today’s world what the future will hold. Still, do you agree with his stances? It sounds like he is speaking more from research than personal bias this time around. It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that Microsoft and Sony don’t view Nintendo in good light right now. They have gotten plenty of negative press the last couple of months.

So they weren't past their glory days in the N64 era? or the GC era? I thought that was the darkest days of Nintendo - and yet it's not untill NOW they're past their glory days, eh? Hey, Pach - take a look at the Wii. That's NOT being past your glory days! Schmuck.

Never count out Nintendo. Rule 1 in the VG business.

Are you kidding me on the second point?! We've had pleanty of new IP's coming out and annoucent the past year! Just take a look at Sonys Gamescom outing!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I don't think Nintendo is a problem for Sony/360.  Yes WiiU will probably drive their console sales down (expect price cuts to compensate) but as he mentions, since WiiU is only as powerful as current gen systems, they probably don't consider it a long term threat.    iOS/Android are the long term threat which as it's changed the entire dynamic of the games industry.

I think the benefit from having a head start, this generation, won`t be about winning race sooner. For Nintendo, and specially Nintendo, 1 year will be very important to make the non-hardcore gaming company/console have a chance to win back that crowd.
If Nintendo can do that it will be very good for Wii U and very bad for both MS and Sony who will both lose from their main customer: the hardcore gamer.
If MS or Sony had a big presence in the non-gamer or casual crowd they would be safer. Problem is, they don`t have a presence there, at least not in a significant way.

^ Exactly. Not all headstarts are to be seen as time to sell more. Changing mentalities is also very important.

About that Iwata article, i do hope that Miiverse will be something really immersive: just like a forum where even if you aren`t chatting with someone in real time, leaving messages and reading comments will be just as fun. Hey, if forums weren`t fun, they would have died a long time ago.

Also, there`s a little thing that a i hope Nintendo implements in a game - like Wii Sports, for example: wouldn`t it be cool to play Wii Sports online and when you are finished or you are like "eh, i wanna play, but i don`t feel like it" you could watch your other friends play? You could use panorama view too look around and look at the crowd. More, and this is what i want: why can`t you be a part of the crowd with your Mii and have some signs giving support or even use the mic to shout at your friends to give them support?

Don`t know if that`s doable but it would be fun and immerse players even more in online gaming.

Wow!  You did it?  Congrats Kenny!

I should try it some time.

Spectator mode... I like that, but not for casual games. Wii Sports is for playing, take off the wii mote swinging and you'll left with nothing.

I would like to watch pros playing, like an Smash Bros online tournament or something like that, that would be cool.

^ Exactly! Just watching or even actively doing something with strangers or friends, like giving support or voting for best moment/player, etc.
We already watch videos of games online, so why not be a participate in it?
