I think it's mostly to put more pressure on the government and make the populace a real element/catalyst of/for change in the global community and regarding global crises.

vlad, you may be right, but this one seems to have actual backing. For example, I got my video off Mike Tyson's facebook feed, that's a big deal.

Obviously the US needs to commit more! There are no other issues anywehre else in the world (if there were there would obviously be an activist video for them!) that are not equally or worse off than this.

Lucy Lawless (XENA! WARRIOR PRINCESS!!!) got arrested on some dinghy a few weeks back while doing activist stuff out in the arctic. Admittedly maybe not as big as Tyson, but still, Xena. I havent seen that go and have any relevant effects other than epople just getting worked up and saying "uh... yeah.. that's bad... mkay?"

Sub Saharan Africa has a population of 800 million people. The people of the region are incapable of feeding themselves due to relying on subsistence farming. The lack of resources is a the cause of all the war and disease in these countries. Sub Saharan Africa will have a population of 3 billion people in 2050 at the current birth rate. Figure it out.

I can tell you it affected me. I suddenly wanted to do the April 20 thing in Fredericton (the city I live in) so as to create awareness and bring people to action.

If people are like meh, the first start is to get them to say mkay, and then once they say mkay, then maybe they can write mkay in a letter and post it off to a friendly government office.

So, let me just get this straight, okay? Are you trying to say:

1) The Sub Saharan Africa problem is greater than the Kona problem.

or

2) The problems are already so big why bother.

Honestly, I'm not sure. If it's 1) though, I'm certain it's better to start somewhere and make change happen, then to look at bigger problems and say "we're going nowhere".

If you start small and actually succeed, it's a building block towards a greater movement of change. Think of it that way.

I was talkign about the Lucy Lawless incident. Come back to me when you do go out and raise awarness in a significant amount of people. Remember the problems in darfur and how much awarness it had (it was a bunch) and jsut how long and how much effort was put into that? I do love idealistic activists though. Their passion is certainly entertianing.

A better question to all the people who bitched and whined and complained, and linked quotes which they don't quite comprehend, is why they suddenly NOW started to care? He is in hiding. Resources have been put into finding him. Where was all this... passion, back when child abductions were far far more common? Hence, a bunch of ignorant people who all of the sudden, in the best case, try to make up for their ignorance far too little far too late.

All that war, disease and starvation? That's nature way of telling Africa that there are too god damn many of them. Killing Kony solves nothing- because there's nothing we can solve. Africa will continue to be a shit hole until they hit some critical mass and true hell on Earth breaks out. And stringing them along with "humanitarian" aid just exacerbates the situation.
