Forums - Sony - How Sony can save the Vita

Stopped reading at number 1, memory cards are a smart way of Sony to earn some bucks, they're not very cheap either.

Funny how everyone must give their 2 cents to save a system/company/etc.

They are initially but those same memory cards which increase the cost of the system by $100 will stop the system and games from selling which results in the death of the VIta. At launch its excusable because the early adopters are game enthusiast but if you wanna start penetrating the bigger portions of the +130m who currently have HD systems then they'll need to be lowered. the 8GB internal memory wont stop sony from selling memory cards, and a specified a reduced price in memory card for the second half of the year because they will need to build momentum for the holiday season. Sometimes companies have to make short term sacrifices for long term gain, 3DS price cut seems to be working well.

"Funny how everyone must give their 2 cents to save a system/company/etc." this is a strange comment being made on a games forum where whole point is for people to discuss and share their opinion.

Currently on the Wii, the Vita would be the system of choice in japan as due to their favour towards portables. The Vita is not only powerful enough to maintain the visuals, it will allow for improvements.

DQX will not be only on Wii but with better graphics on Wii U too. There is not the slightest chance that Dragon Quest goes to Vita, a system that called dead from most japanese developers. It will be Wii and Wii U exklusive, perhaps later on a 3DS version.

Its seems obvious that a portable COD would be a massive success

Obvious? No. COD games are for the big consoles not for handhelds. By the way: The DS got some CoD-Games. I think the 3DS will get some too. And the Vita will get a CoD-Game if the sales get better in US.

The only things that would save the Vita are a much lower price of Hardware and games. And a bunch of good games. But none of that is beeing in sight.

1. You have a source for this sir? Or are you yourself a Japanese developer?
2.  COD games were never big for handhelds because they were dumbed-down versions of the console versions. 2 Analog Sticks make all the difference.
3. Vita will get a COD game when sales improve? Uh, game was already announced to be coming this fall. It will most likely be a port of Black Ops 2.
4. None of that is on sight? These big games were already announced. COD, Assassins Creed, Bioshock, Monster Hunter...etc. They are confirmed by Sony to be coming to Vita this year.

They're not targeting that market. They are targeting those with a DS/PSP/3DS and maybe even an iPad/iPod.
Remembert his is a portable system despite how console-like its games look.

Small games won't be the sole reason but they will definitely be responsible for becoming remaining active with the device and thus spreading word of mouth. Also we're not simply talking about angry birds, games like limbo and the jouney which are incredibly unique experiences, which i think are far more enticing on a handheld. As for classics, nintendo moves at a snails pace, it will be 2015 before they start making GBA games available for download on the 3DS. "if Nintendo makes use of what they've got" I'd also argue that nintendo hasn't got very much, the archive of their main franchises have more or less been exploited. Im suggested sony look at the ps2 catalogue (arguably the biggest of any system) and take advantage of the brilliant 3rd party software. The 3DS gets up to the dreamcast before porting becomes a problem, it can't play gamecube/ps2/Xbox games without fairly modification to both the visuals and control scheme. It needs to be inexpensive, the Vitas power allows for this.

Nintendo has the most valuable back catalog in the video game business. That's a fact. Consider that Nintendo can sell an overhauled classic game for $30 at retail while makers of PS2 software have to combine three of their games and still reach considerably lower sales at the same price.

If Nintendo breaks down the barrier between the Wii's and the 3DS's Virtual Console service and makes it one, then they'll be comfortably ahead of Sony. The 3DS doesn't need to be able to emulate sixth generation home console software, because the real gold comes from the third and fourth generation.

well i disagree, their not directly comparable. Nintendo's back catalogue is caters to a much older generation of gamers, and is limited to the sprite era's. the most recent generation is far more likely attract a younger audiences (teens) in my opinion. "Consider that Nintendo can sell an overhauled classic game for $30" the only games which come to mind is Ocarina Of Time 3D....

Im pretty sure anyone interested in owner a dedicated handheld gaming device would also have a home console. There is at least a very large overlap. I don't know any1 who owns a handheld and no home console. Anyway Sony have stated their core gamers http://www.vgchartz.com/article/88699/playstation-vita-to-have-biggest-campaign-ever-by-sony/

Your far too hopeful, Dragon Quest X on PSV? PSV doesn't use a Wii-mote, the controls would be messed up. Imagine playing Skyward Sward with a traditional controller, it would ruin the game.

Also Final Fantasy Type-Zero, why would Square remake the game for PSV when it won't even port the title to PSP? In order to remake it, they would need to make the game from ground up again. They are better off making a new PSV exclusive.

However you are right about a video game Archive. One reason why I love to play my DS and GBA is because the games on the system are either ports/remakes of old games (Final Fantasy 1,2,4-6 for GBA, Dragon Quest for DS) or a lot of the game available are sequals to old IP's, and give a retro feel (Dragon Quest IX, Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, Metroid Fusion, Pokemon, etc). Sony has a big resevour of PS1 and PS2 exclusives, exclusives which could be remade for the PSV, like how Tales of the Abyss was remade for 3DS.

There is an issue though. Sony won't do this either because Square-Enix supports Nintendo more in handhelds, or because they don't have many 1st party exclusives to remake (They could start with The Legend of Dragoon). This is why Nintendo is better for handheld gaming, and this is why a Nintendo hand held sells better. What you're saying is that if Sony wasn't Sony and made a different system, the PSV could be saved, but that's just not going to happen.

However I don't think PSV is doomed, it just won't sell that differently then PSP, it's going to rock in Japan.

P.S. Memory....This is a cash grab. Sony planned to make a $300-$400 portale system, this is how they justify selling a $250 platform. Every company does it.

Alright ideas, but your title could do for a rewording...

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

They should make PSV into a time reversal machine that retains knowledge so I can send myself back to high school times and sleep with more girls.

Actually they shouldn't even try to serve two masters. They can't please everyone and based off the price and market strategy they haven't decided to. They know the whiny hardcore gamer will buy it regardless because it is the only game in town for that crowd, they can poop on people as much as they want and the hardcore gamers will call it fertilizer to grow games from. So for that reason alone the price of the memory cards etc is pretty good.So effectively they need to give lipservice to these people whilst directing the rest of their resources aside from a few token efforts towards marginal customers whom could go either to an iPod Touch or 3DS.

Tease.

Include 10 GB of porn on the Vita it will sell bucket-loads, but if Nintendo decides to adapt my idea of 3D porn then the Vita is doomed with no chance of redemption.

Former something....
