Wow... so far in this thread we have a guy who thinks that the DKC series was BORING, but somehow loves Returns which is just DKC with tacked on motion controls and 10 times the mine cart / forced scrolling levels.

And we have another who thinks that Wii Music was a great game.

I said I thought Returns was better, I never said I loved it. What I love is the original arcade Donkey Kong games. But yes, in my opinion the DK Country games are tedious. I only brought it up as an example of a series I believe to be more overated than Sonic's latest efforts of which I have fun playing.

See what I did there?

Well, what you find tedious I find challenging and addictive. The original arcade Donkey Kong appeals to me in the same was as I think golf appeals to golfers. It's simple and challenging, but rewarding and no matter how good you get there's always room to improve.

DK Country on the other hand I just don't "get". I love platformers like Mario, Sonic, Castlevania, Mega Man, etc. but compared to those classics DK Country feels slow and plodding.  Collecting bananas should be as fun as collecting Sonic's rings, but I find myself skipping the former and obsessively hording the latter. It's just not for me.

UHHHHHH.... gee, maybe that's because they each constitute two entirely different gameplay functions?!?

The rings in Sonic games are basically health and are an absolute necessity for survival in such a fast paced game, because without them it's 1-hit and you're dead.  The bananas in DKC serve the exact same purpose as coins do in every single Mario game... get a free life for every 100 you collect.  That's it.  Do you have a problem with collecting coins in Mario games as well?

I don't have a problem with you enjoying the classic DK games while not really feeling the DKC SNES games, but what I simply can't understand is your reasoning why the DKC games are so inferior to other platformers....  DKC is slow and plodding compared to CASTLEVANIA???

As John Mcenroe would say... you cannot be serious!

Castlevania's movement may be slow, but the action is frenetic. I don't find anything slow or tedious about dodging medusa heads while trying to hit a skeleton in the face with a throwing knife.

Oh and I completely understand the difference between collecting for health and collecting just to collect with the added bonus of a 1up now and then. I don't really collect coins in Mario games, but I still have tons of fun zipping though the levels. Take away Mario's coins and it's essentially the same fun game. Take away the collectables in DK Country and you're left with what I experience playing the game, good music, nice graphics, mundane gameplay. Collecting the bananas and the letters just seems like an arbitrary task. I find Mario and Sonic fun because running and jumping around the levels is challenging and rewarding. You don't need to actually collect anything to have fun, but if you do, it adds a layer of exploration. You might say DK Country's collectables fit that bill, but when I play the game I find myself asking "why is this fun again?"

It's clear to me that you love DK Country and don't care for DK arcade. That's find, I have the opposite opinion, but that's ok. What I don't understand is why it disturbs you so much that someone disagrees with your opinion. I don't have to like DK Country and I'm allowed to enjoy a Sonic game every now and then.

Yes, I am serious, but unlike McEnroe I'm not pissed off and throwing tennis rackets. Can't we just agree to disagree on this? I stated an opinion and I'm growing tired of that opinion being belittled. As if anyone's opinion is worth more than anyone else's.

Well it's obvious we're at polar opposites of the spectrum here, so I'm just going to leave it at that. Boy did this thread get derailed pretty quickly lol.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

LA Noire deserves a place on this list ahead of obviously bad games that were probably inflicted upon people by relatives who don't know anything about games.

Sonic at 1 is incredibly harsh considering the worst game ever made was at number 2 though.

Wii Music was so hyped since it was right in the middle of the Wii's peak in popularity. Everyone thought it was going to be the pinnacle of motion controls, being able to play music the way you actually play the instruments in real life.

I bought into it as well......WOW, damn it must have been the worst game I played that cost over 40 dollars. Really mislead the public as to what it could do...

Wait, didn't you see any videos from the E3 presentation that year? It was absolutely ridiculous.

this, if you bought into Wii Music you deserve your money to be taken

It was more that I bought into potential of Wii in general.  But yes, I did deserve for my money to be taken.  I quickly realized that I was had when I went to see how much gamestop would give me back for it and they were like 2 bucks man.  That being said,  Wii Sports resort was great.  The disconnect in functionality between two Wii Series games left me at a loss...

#1 completely invalidated their list even though some of those games belong on there - I could see if they were talking about some of the more recent games like Sonic 06 but to lump everything in, from the classics to Colors and Generations based off of a few weak examples is the epitome of hyperbolic bullshit.

If by classics you mean during the Sega consoles, they made a point to remove those from the list, only the games made on Non-Sega consoles, e.g Sonic 06 Werehog black Knight etc etc.

That's embarassingly shortsighted, because that means they're also throwing games like Adventure DX/2: Battle, the Advance and Rush games, Sonic Battle, Secret Rings, Unleashed and Heroes all under the bus, when each these games range from decent to great in quality. There are several poignant examples of bad Sonic games, trying to take them all down in one fell swoop is lazy and sensationalist.

And Rol brought up a good point, how do you use Sega hardware immunity when talking about bad Sonic games? Sega's been doing bad all by themselves for years, that's basically giving headscratchers like Labyrinth, and trash like Drift and Blast a free pass.

This is just Game Trailers trying to be cool. It's cool to hate Sonic, Star Wars, the Matrix, and E.T. so they're all on there.

Don't get me wrong; the Star Wars, Matrix, and E.T. games are all terrible (especially E.T.), but the Sonic series being number one is just irresponsible on GT's part.

#1... Sonic FRANCHISE, I loled.

But seriously, the first sonic game I played was adventure 2 on the GC and I loved the game but thats maybe because I was young (like 11), If I played it again today maybe I would hate it idk... After that came Heroes and I was incredibly disapointed. Never played a other sonic game after that (except for that Shadow game that also disapointed me), I heard ale the games after Heroes were also rly bad, only heard bad things about them. So IMO theyr is no doubt that the Sonic franchise is bringing alot of underserved money, neverless it is still a great and rly important franchise in this industry and from what I heard Sonic generations is great so hopefully sega will start doing good sonic games again.

I think it's funny how videogame nerds don't understand the Just Dance phenomena.

The game is the ultimate party game, people drink, dance with girls and have fun; and then buy their own copy, have parties of their own with the game, and spread the word.

Oh, and Donkey Kong Country is an awesome series. The first three are to this day three of the very best platformers ever made. Probably the only platformer I liked more than Donkey Kong Country 2 was Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I tried to hold it in, but I agree that Sonic hasn't been good. I think Generations and Colors have to right feel, but I just don't feel Sonic like I used to when I was a kid. I wouldn't say all of his games were bad, but those 3D games ruin him. It will take a lot to bring him back.
