Not very well... so expensive yet... needs a price cut here... the official Vita here cost more than the official iPad 2

microsoft invented the apps, hd & 3rd party deals confirmed!  

 All companies adopt successful business practices, I can not see why any of the three would be any different.

Didn't say they invented it, but MS have been the ones (as well as Sony) to make it successful in the console space.

1) Apps: Nintendo has been attempting downloadable  games since 1987 http://www.n-sider.com/contentview.php?contentid=213

2) HD: Really?  You're going to say they're copying by making a system that's more powerful than their previous one?  I suppose the Xbox was just a copy of the PS2, and the Super Nintendo was a copy of the Genesis.

3) Third parties: They tried to court them with the Wii as well.  Admittedly, their attempts didn't work very well and they're doing it better with Wii U and 3DS, but the intention was always there.

 

Nintendo is certainly copying their competitors in some necessary areas, such as the recently announced Nintendo Network, but those were not the best examples at all.

What has downloadable games got to do with apps?

There is nothing wrong with Nintendo going to HD, and in itself it isn't copying, it's the lingo they keep using. They're very aware it's a major selling point (like the once argued it wasn't) and hence why reggie is coming out with 1080p like he has a clue what it means.

I don't believe they tried courting third parties tbh.

The main things they're focusing on right now are key areas of MS and Sony's strategy.


Fair enough.  When you said 'apps', I figured you meant game apps such as Infinity Blade or Angry Birds.  With regard to the HD thing, it's not that they didn't think it was a selling point, but when the Wii launched they didn't think there were enough HDTVs in the market yet for it to be worth the extra cash.

Thanks for the reasoned response!  Is it wrong of me that I automatically assumed that I would be flamed, this being the Internet and all? XD

If Apps are applications, the Wii also launched with the News/Weather channels, plus all the other Wii apps such as the browser, photo, shop, character creation, beauty contest, fortune teller...

Even if Reggie and Nintendo by large brush off talks about competitors as if they don't care, that's just PR. They do and will always keep them in mind to some degree.
