Forums - Movies & TV - Oscars 2012!! Who will be the big winners? Winner's update. "Hugo" 5 and "The Artist" 5. Oscar Secrets Answered!

Ok that was embarrassing. Me and my friend were having a competition and he beat me 17-11. I'm literally stunned that Streep beat Davis. The only thing I am really bummed about after these awards.

In case no one didn't notice: Woody Allen won hist fourth oscar tonight, his first one since 1987.

Too bad that Scorsese didn't win either. These two guys are the two best living US directors imo.

you are right...great that you said "US" and "living"...without that i would had like 30 vetos ^^

but i think we also can add Tarantino to that list...okay he is not totally original and you can see so many influences in his movies but Reservoir Dogs,Pulp Fiction,Kill Bill 1 & Inglorious Basterds are definatly one of the best movies from the 90s & 00s...i dont say he is better than Woody and hell no better than Scocese but he is definatly up there...

Warrior and Drive deserve a nomination...

Streep won! How many years has it been for her? Is she now the best actress of all time? Or is Hepburn still ahead?

Tom Cruise face must have cost million upon millions of dollars. He looks like he did in Rain Man almost!

Did not realize War Horse was that good. Spielberg is always there.

*edit* I wonder if Cruise will ever win? He always works his tail off when making a movie. Great actor as well.

same with Brad Pitt...

Ha, in the end Meryl Streep topped Woddy Allen with tonight's longest time span between oscars. She won her 3rd oscar after 29 years, he won his 4th after 25 years if I'm not mistaken (not that he would care though).

Again: Too bad Scorsese hasn't won his 2nd oscar. He would have deserved a 2nd one as compensation for ignoring him for Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas, his 3 best movies.

Other than that: Better show than I had expected. The Artist and Hugo were the expected overall winners, none of them will become future classics though.

Billy Crystal still wipes the floor with most other presenters.

A film about Margaret Thatcher with a great acting performance from an actress who looked and acted exactly like the real Margaret Thatcher. Thatcher was a cold calculating, ambitious, career driven woman who literally crushed every man who stood in her pursuit of power.

Of course I consider them "only" the two best living US directors. The only other one that could compete (now that Altman is not around anymore) would be Coppola. Then Lynch, Tarantino and - yes - Spielberg would follow. If we were speaking about all US directors: So many to consider, from Capra to Wilder, from Huston to Ford...there were dozens, hard to pick the best one.

Billy Crystal is actually the main reason I watched this year. He has always been funny except in My Giant.

@Makavelli

Yeah Brad is another one who works hard! He had two nominations this year alone right?
