i think what Torillian said will help you decide. RPG's these days are really nothing like RPG's of the past.
for the most part they're not turn based, they're more action based these days with the same elements of RPG's from the past.
i'd liken todays RPG's to a god of war with more depth. be prepared to spend 40 or more hours playing any RPG.

Looks like an amazing game.
So buy it. Maybe you'll get hooked on JRPGs - I know I did when I played FF6 for the first time (or was it Earthbound?)
I say go for it. It seems to be highly rated and since you're looking at just Wii games, the decision should be easier.
First RPG I played bored me to death. I thought what the hell is up with taking turns to hit each other. I mostly still feel like that.
