Forums - Gaming - Pachter: PS4 and Xbox next will ship with 4GB models, Wii U won’t ship with any HDD

4GB??? This guys predictions get more and more unlikely as the months pass! Is someone actually paying this fool?? And if so are they insane?

This is great news (if it comes true). think about it, how many people have PS3 HDDs. you can just pop your PS3 HDD out, by the cheapest model of the PS4 and pop your old PS3 HDD in. i'd defintly get that. or get a 500 GB HDD seperately, rather than buy a PS4 with the most expensive HDD space.

the same goes for MS fans. i think that would be a very good marketing incentive for those gamers who have already have PS3s and 360s, because new consoles can be advertised as an upgrade to their current console. so 360 users will be like: "well i arealdy have a HDD for the new Xbox, with all my game saves and contacts, etc, i might as well get a new Xbox".

i personally wont be getting an Xbox anyway, but as a PS3 user this is great for as a prospective PS4 user.

It'd be even better if all consoles must have a HDD, it would make game development easier and the games could be made to make use of that standard HDD to run (or load) more quickly.

Way to make it even more PC-like...

Btw, 8GB > 4GB, anyone?

And this would make it bad how?

Just because all pc's have a HDD, does not mean consoles should not, in fact they should have more incentive to do it, because consoles are designed for gaming.

So sorry, I fail to see any point you were trying to make with that, if you even had one.

160GB to 250GB HDD. A decent sized HDD is mandatory now towards the end of this generation. Game downloads, DLC, music, photos and movies all require HDD space.

I believe this is a pretty bad prediction Mr. Pachter... sorry.

8-16GB minimum.

actually I for one hope that they do make 4gig models that force developers to allow games to run without forced installs. I absolutely hate it when I get a game and I have to wait 20-30minutes for it to install during random parts of the game. Console gaming should be about convenience and plug in and play. If I want to wait through long install times I might as well just play games on my PC with a controller and experience a much better looking product.

Now I'm not complaining about quick 15 second updates or having the choice to fully install the game if I want to. I am complaining about mandatory installs that shouldn't exist in console gaming period.

even if the consoles have a 4gb model. a new HDD will be like $70 for 500gb. assuming prices are still high from the floods in taiwan, but are console HDD made in taiwan? if not then $40 for 500gb.

why would they be made elsewhere when most of the HDD production plants are in Taiwan ?

I like Pachter, but i bet he doesnt even know the 3DS comes with a free 2Gig card.

It shouldnt be too hard for Nintendo to do the same with the WiiU.

It sounds like consoles are soon becoming identical to PCs, doesn't it?

They have to keep changing to survive don't they?

As long as they don't start making  RAM (yes I know about N64), CPUs and GPUs upgradeable they will be consoles.

I know you didn't mean to, but that's actually fucking funny

Pachter probably lives in a world where 1 gigabyte is still a shitton of memory.

HDD won't be much of an issue since SD cards are getting cheaper and bigger (in capacity).

Lol. I hope that this is a typo and that was supposed to be 40GB.
