It´s not like you wil have to buy the game and than the extra MP content, you can buy the MP without buying the whole game, but if you buy the game it will include the MP.

Looks like you're replying to me.

Even though that's true in this case, there are cases like Dead Space 2 where you have no choice but to download multiplayer since it's not included or blocked on your disc(s). Of course there's positives and negatives from both sides though.

I didn`t knew that about Dead Space cause I haven´t played it, but isn`t Dead Space more of a Singleplayer Game anyway. But I get your there will be companies that will charge extra for the MP alltough you´ve allready bought the game for the full price. But there is an easy solution to that just don´t buy it.

That's a poor solution if you really want the game and really need more money.

But like I said: Yes, there are positive sides of this as well.

sounds good for some kind of games. for example i just want tp play the battlefield 3 multi-player and i only want to play bioshock single.player.

so selling the whole game as retail and only the multi player as download is a good first step. next step would be to get the opinion to buy only the single-player as well. no clue how they will handle that but i think there will be a way in the future and if i have to pay less then i will be happy as long as both experiences together won't cost more because of that.

they could make it like:

full retail version like before 60€ or so
or
download only single or multi.player and pay less for one of the modes but both together can cost little bit more than the 60€ version (or 60 as well and they make still more money because there's no retail for that). no customer would have a disavantage then but the developer can still get a decent amount for the game and doesn't have to fear that they will make much less money then and the customer can get only what he wants for less than the price nowadays.

if i would have had the chance to pay xx% less for battlefiled 3 without single player i would have done it and if i would have had the chance to get a bioshock single player only for xx% less as the full game price i would be happy with that (depends how much xx would be^^)

they even could say: both versions (only single or multiplayer) cost 40€ each (for example) but if you have bought one, you can get the other for 20€. then you can still get the full game for the same prcie than retail and the develper won't get much less if he only sells one part.

(these are all just fast examples from me. sure the numbers don't make so much sense because a download should cost less than retail and so on but it's just to say how they could do it. i think this would be good for everyone)

I think this a good idea for some reason.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Does anyone remember when you could pay 50-60 dollars for a game and actually get a full game without paying anything extra for a multiplayer mode, dlc maps, dlc single player lvls, extra skins, weapons, ect?

I kind of see what Sony is doing here, but it sounds more like another attempt to break up otherwise complete games and sell them back to the consumer at a much higher price. Call of Duty Black ops is my fav example of this ... 60 dollar game and then another 60 dollars for a bunch of maps that mostly should have been included in the first place.

Paying 15 dollars for just the multiplayer of Killzone 3 ... not quite sure if that is a bargain. Between sales and other deals you could probably get the full game for 20 dollars or less at some retailers. Even if you buy the multiplayer portion you will have to get the map packs as well (I think not sure).

Only Nintendo seems to sell complete games now, and that won't last with the transition to HD/online with the Wii U.

That's cool with me.

I would love the next Treyarch CoD game to separate its game into a $20 single player, $20 multiplayer and $20 zombies modes or something like that. I would then buy the multiplayer and zombies for $40 and forget about the single player.

Probably wouldn't work out like that though... if it did happen it would be more like $50 multiplayer only, or $50 single player only, or $70 for both (I am assuming RRP in the US is $60)

yes i remember that. that was the time everyone of us didn't earn as much as nowadays because of loan increases. the time the developer didn't have to pay as much as nowadays for their employees as well. instead of that they could sell the games for 80€ which wouldn't be more for me than paying 120DM 15 years ago but this doesn't seem to work because most people believe a game should never increase in price even when they earn 500% more n 50 years lol.

I do not like this idea at all as it will be cumbersome to keep track of sales for each version.

So $60 for Single player, and $15 more for the full multiplayer? Or cheaper retail pricing?

Cheaper retail pricing...maybe $30 for singleplayer, $30 for multiplayer...or $45 for singleplayer, $15 for multiplayer...I dont know.

Exactly what have Sony got to gain here? a $30 retail game wouldn't earn Sony much at all, $45 is a big drop down from $60 as well.

Just raise the price of games then. I'll gladly pay 70 dollars or even 80 if it means I will get a full game without having to worry about dlc, online passes, weapon packs and ect. My concern is not so much price, but the hassle of jumping through so many hoops just to play a game.

Fortunately, it seems like more and more developers are releasing the full version of their games with all the included dlc that should have been there in the first place ... Borderlands GOTY edition, Fallout GOTY, Oblivion GOTY, Fallout New Vegas Ultimate ... ect. ect. As far as I am concerned, these are the official releases of these games, and what came before was an extended demo. Oblivion might be an exception though as I felt the game was complete even without the expansion.

Imagine if movies were sold 20 minutes at a time and you had to buy add ons in order to see the endings. This does happen with a few examples (lord of the rings extended edition and ect.) but, for the most part, when I buy a movie I am getting a full movie and not just 2/3 of a movie which is often the case with the mostly incomplete video games that are released now.

My ultimate point here is that I am not so much concerned about price as I am about being sold parts of an overall experiences when what I want is a complete game.
