Forums - Sony - Vita price cut “not on the radar at all” – Sony

That VideoGame Blog

Last year Nintendo made the surprising move of slashing the price of its 3DS just six months after launch. It was a move that placed all eyes on Sony’s now-pricier PS Vita, but the company is adamant that a similar price cut is not happening any time soon.

Speaking to BBC tech show, Click, SCEE CEO Jim Ryan revealed that the company has no plans for a price cut right now.

“It’s not on our radar screens at all at the moment,” Ryan said. “We have our launch plans in place, we’re in the middle of a very vibrant pre-order campaign, the demand that we see coming through in our part of the world is strong, and a price cut, to be honest, is the last thing on our minds right now.”

Those waiting on a drop in the entry fee better set themselves up for a long wait, then. The PS Vita launches tomorrow.

Won't be in a few months! Arn't they supposed to plan these things sometimes years in advance?

Well they probably can't afford a price cut, nor would the board and wider shareholders approve. The difference is that Nintendo released a product where they could cut the price a few months after launch and remain profitable, Sony has to pay for the kitchen sink of features they put in.

Tease.

Don't think Nintendo planned their price-cut far in advance =P

Well, the 3DS is still making a loss and overall Nintendo arnt profitable right now, they should be soon enough though, I guess with the money they've earnt last gen they can afford 1 year of losses.

Imagine he'd say that a price cut is definitely on their radar if demand in the coming few months is less than expected. Boom! These news would be all over the internet.

Hint: he would never say that even if it was true.

i give it about a 40% chance that there will be a $50 price by September-November of this year.
but most likely they will just do lots of bundles and special offers. With free games, and memory card.
Doing value added approach.
i do expect a PS3 price cut though.
i also expect some sort of PS3/Vita bundles (perhaps for as low as $400-450) to compete with the WiiU, which i expect to launch at $400-450.

I never understood the fascination with these news storys, never has a company come out and said "we will be dropping the price of our hardware in 3 months time but please still buy as you would for the mean time"

Pointless.

This is exactly how I feel. Anyone who asks this question to publishers, and then posts this response as a news story, is really dull-headed.

I say a price cut might actually happen soon lol, if not then bundles galore.
